Job Description

Job Title: Director of Children’s Ministry

Reports to: Lead Pastor

Job Overview: The role of the Director of Children’s Ministry is to provide an age appropriate foundation of Christian spiritual belief through education, crafts, play, bible teachings, and seasonal events and programs, for the children First (Kinder on Wednesday) through Fifth grades.

Additionally, this person should promote opportunities that will draw children to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Direct a Christ-centered curriculum which provides high-quality teaching and appropriate stimulation and support to the children under his/her command.
  • Develop a comprehensive Bible-centered teaching curriculum and plan for children, through education, crafts, play, bible teachings, and seasonal events and programs.
    Lead, train, and recruit assistants who have passion for shepherding and discipleship of children
  • Coordinate with Staff Administrative Assistant assuring children’s records are maintained, with current and correct contact information; i.e. parent / caregiver phone numbers, addresses, emails.
  • Coordinate with Staff Administrative Assistant to maintain documentation; i.e. sign-in/sign-out logs, accident and incident reports, illness reports, and any other documentation needed during the course of the program, event, or activity.
  • Ensure a safe, high standard of hygiene, and welcoming environment.
    Work closely with parents and caregivers to administer needs of the children under his/her care
  • Assure that all volunteer workers have current security checks and are trained properly.
  • Prepare and manage an annual budget.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, church council meetings, and business meetings required as directed for the role.
  • Coordinate with worship ministry team for children events as needed.
  • Coordinate and budget for nursery care with Nursery Director for pre-school aged children during children’s ministry special events.
  • Have the primary role in planning and executing the following key areas of the ministry, including but not limited to: Children’s Church, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Summer Camps, Upward Basketball, Christmas Program, Easter Program, Fall Festival.
  • Coordinate with Youth Pastor in developing a transitional program from children’s ministry to the youth ministry.
  • Provide counseling and compassion care to children and their parents/caregivers, through outreach methods deemed appropriate for a specific situation. (Example: hospital visits and availability in crisis situations).
  • Coordinate with Church leaders, when/where appropriate, concerning ministerial resources needed to deal with a situation that is beyond the scope of expertise, or in crisis situations. (Example: divorce, deaths, family situations).
  • Communicate and coordinate with Buildings and Grounds support for any maintenance and safety concerns regarding all physical or environmental issues in the campus environment he/she operates in.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of office hours during the week, to be available to Church and community members.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Lead Pastor

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an under-graduate degree in Early Education, Ministry, or a related Education appropriate degree to oversee and manage a department caring for children in a nurturing environment, preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a children’s ministry leadership position, preferred.
  • Must be physically able to participate in children’s activities, events, sporting events, and playtime.
  • Must be physically able to sit on ground or floor, squat, kneel and able to lift and carry 50 pounds carefully.
