Senior Pastor – Job Description

Overview
Elam Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a Spirit-led, mission-minded Senior Pastor to provide spiritual and administrative leadership to our congregation and ministries. The Senior Pastor will serve as the primary preacher and teacher, responsible for shepherding the church family, equipping leaders, and reaching the community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Key Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership

Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the church and community.
Plan and lead worship services in coordination with the Worship Pastor/Director.
Provide pastoral care through preaching, teaching, prayer, counseling, and visitation.
Offer spiritual guidance and leadership to church staff and ministry leaders.
Train and mentor the Deacon Body to effectively care for the congregation.
Encourage all members toward active Christian service and discipleship.
Conduct weddings, funerals, and other pastoral functions.
Share the Gospel with both believers and non-believers.

Administrative Leadership

Provide overall leadership to church staff and coordinate church ministries.
Lead church meetings (staff, Church Council, etc.) and serve as an ex officio member of all committees.
Ensure church policies and procedures are implemented effectively and in accordance with biblical principles.
Support unity among church members, leaders, and ministries.
Represent the church at local, state, and denominational meetings.
Maintain strong relationships and cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention and affiliated organizations.

Visitation & Outreach

Organize and participate in a consistent visitation program, ministering to members during times of illness, bereavement, or other special needs.
Engage with and witness to unchurched individuals and families in the community.
Follow up with visitors and prospects via letter, email, or personal visit.

Personal Commitments

Maintain a Christ-like character and a Christian witness in all areas of life, including family and personal conduct.
Pursue ongoing spiritual and professional development.
Faithfully steward time, talents, and resources in service to the Lord and His church.
Stay informed about denominational goals, resources, and developments.

Accountability
The Senior Pastor is accountable to the Deacon Body, which provides support, evaluation, and accountability in his ministry role.
