The Executive Pastor / Director of Operations will support the Lead Pastor and Elders by carrying out the strategic plan to advance the vision and mission of APCC. The XP/DoO will oversee the administration and operations of the church, providing leadership for Sunday worship services, staff, ministry teams, outreaches, and other church events.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate is a faithful and fruitful follower of Jesus who is gifted administratively and possesses a heart for Christ and His church. This individual must have experience in leading teams, building systems, and executing organizational missions. The XP/DoO will work directly alongside the Lead Pastor and be accountable to him and/or the elder overseeing Sunday services and church operations.
Responsibilities
General Leadership
Maintain good standing as a covenant family member at APCC. Work closely and collaboratively with the Lead Pastor in advancing the mission, vision, and values of APCC. Assume primary responsibility for implementing the vision and strategic goals of the church.
Elder Team (if qualified)
Serve on the Elder Team to plan meetings and ensure execution of all action items, relieving other elders from administrative burdens so they can focus on shepherding and oversight. Serve as the primary elder liaison for HR and Finance, coordinating the annual budgeting process. Serve as the primary elder liaison to all church deacons and ministry team leaders. Perform general pastoral duties including preaching, teaching, discipleship, leading worship services, and counseling.
Church Staff
Lead, manage, train, develop, and resource non-pastoral staff and volunteers, ensuring alignment with the church’s vision and direction. Oversee goal-setting, reporting structures, staff meetings, and policies in conjunction with the Lead Pastor and Elders. Maintain and update job descriptions, oversee performance reviews, and ensure alignment between staff activity, church needs, and role expectations. Coordinate the work and collaboration of church staff as needed.
Church Ministries
Oversee and develop APCC’s administrative and ministry infrastructure, systems, and processes to ensure fidelity to Scripture, alignment with APCC’s vision, and synergy, efficiency, and scalability. Coordinate and evaluate ministries throughout the church to ensure ministry leaders and teams are thriving, consistently growing, and aligned with APCC’s vision, values, and strategic priorities. In collaboration with the Lead Pastor, oversee the discipleship and training process of the church, including classes, leadership development, internships, and residencies.
Time Allocation by Role Category
- Strategic Leadership & Vision Implementation – Advancing APCC’s mission, vision, and strategic goals with the Lead Pastor and Elders (25%)
- Staff Leadership & Development – Leading and developing church staff, ministry team leaders, and volunteers to accomplish their goals (25%)
- Church Ministries Oversight – Coordinating and strengthening all ministry areas and systems (20%)
- Sunday Services & Operations – Overseeing logistics, worship gatherings, service flow, volunteer coordination, facilities (15%)
- Pastoral Ministry & Discipleship – Teaching, discipleship, care/counseling, and relational ministry (10%)
- Elder, Finance & HR Liaison – Supporting elders, budget planning, and HR oversight (5%)
Qualifications
Character and Calling
Demonstrates a mature, gospel-centered life and a deep love for the local church. Models servant leadership and humility while exercising strong spiritual and organizational authority. Able to submit to leadership while leading confidently and collaboratively.
Ministry Skills
Able to: Lead and manage a growing staff team
Translate vision and strategy into ministry systems
Coach and mentor ministry leaders
Communicate effectively in writing and in person
Oversee and develop administrative and ministry systems
Deal constructively with crisis and conflict
Build, lead, and equip strong volunteer teams
Submit to leadership while leading confidently
Organize people and manage processes
Oversee a church budgeting process
Experience and Education
Minimum of 3 years in executive leadership or a similar high-level ministry/organizational position. A Bachelor’s degree is required; theological training is preferred.
Compensation
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
