Associate Vice President for Convention Advancement Full Time

Drawing from a deep well of experience, the Associate Vice President for Convention Advancement serves the communications office by providing clear and strategic messaging and marketing to promote the Southern Baptist Convention and its ministries. He/she will help direct print, digital, and multimedia communications that tell the Southern Baptist story to Southern Baptists and beyond. This position will also serve as Brand Manager for the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists’ unified plan of giving that supports missions and ministries across North America and around the world.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Work with individuals, churches, state conventions, and SBC entities to promote the Cooperative Program and Vision 2025
  2. Direct, develop and deploy convention marketing and promotional plans for all EC marketing emphases including but not limited to the Cooperative Program, Vision 2025, and SBC Annual Meetings
  3. Help coordinate the marketing and communication strategy for the Executive Committee at the SBC Annual Meeting
  4. Collaborate on print, digital and visual resources for SBC promotional and marketing purposes
  5. Develop and implement the use of current and emerging media technologies to advance the message, mission, vision, and ministries of the SBC and its Executive Committee through any and all appropriate avenues of communication
  6. Improve public understanding and support of the message, mission, vision, and ministries of the SBC and its Executive Committee
  7. Promote participation in the Annual Meeting and other SBC events
  8. Oversee budgetary spending for all convention marketing operations
  9. Direct the developing, publishing, printing, posting, marketing, and distributing materials about Southern Baptist identity, beliefs, polity, history, and heritage
  10. Develop strategic relationships with SBC entities and other ministries to further the ministry impact of the Executive Committee
  11. Assist in the development and publication of SBC Life, the journal of the Southern Baptist Convention
  12. Develop an integrated messaging strategy for the brand of SBC Life
  13. Provide staff supervision and training for the communications team as needed
  14. Assist the Vice President for Communications as needed; other duties as assigned


  1. Membership in a cooperating Southern Baptist church and a lifestyle that displays a growing relationship with Christ
  2. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, or similar field; master’s degree preferred
  3. A minimum of 8-10 years of work experience in marketing or communications in a religious, educational or non-profit setting
  4. Experience creating, implementing and succeeding with detailed marketing plans for long-term goals and short-term initiatives
  5. An understanding of the Cooperative Program, its ministries and its purpose
  6. Experience with email marketing, lead nurturing, marketing automation, and web analytics
  7. Ability to create, edit, and promote written and visual content
  8. Relocation to Nashville required
