About Bear Cove

Bear Cove Baptist Church in Sparta, TN, is seeking the man God is calling to lead our mission minded, friendly, and loving congregation. We are seeking a Senior Pastor who is focused on leading, mentoring, empowering and mobilizing our church body as a team to show others in our community, state, nation and world the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We believe that God wants us to be people of the Word and prayer, who live out the Word and who make disciples who make disciples.  We can see God at work in our church and people are desiring to follow Jesus. Our growing fellowship runs the gamut from traditional long-time believers to fairly recent converts, from senior saints to young families with children. Our church is hungering for pastoral leadership – someone to come lead us in strong Biblical teaching and application of that teaching, as Jesus taught His disciples. The church is seeking out the individual called by God who has experience leading God’s church and has taken seriously the study of God’s word. Seminary training is  preferred.

About the role

The chief responsibility of the senior pastor is leading the church to accomplish the biblical mission of loving God, loving others, and making disciples. (Matthew 22:37-40, Matthew 28:19-20)

The senior pastor is accountable to God, the church leadership, and the church body.

We seek the man chosen by God to:

• Lead and guide us in corporate worship, prayer and Bible study
• Exhort us to private worship, prayer and Bible study
• Facilitate and mobilize us in small and large group fellowship and disciple-making
• Minister in and reach out to our local community, as well as beyond it to our state, our nation and our world

Responsibilities

The senior pastor should lead by word and example as he guides the church to accomplish her mission. His primary duties include but are not limited to:

• Proclaiming and teaching God’s Word
• Leading and equipping leaders
• Role modeling the church’s mission
• Congregational care
• Executive and administrative leadership
• Devotion to prayer and Christian growth
• Good communication skills
• Problem solving
• Loving leadership during conflict
• Promoting financial stewardship
• Equipping parents and married couples

Location & commitments

• Full-Time Senior Pastor
• Lives in or near Sparta, TN
• Maintains regular office hours
• Preaches on Sunday mornings
• Oversees Sunday night and Wednesday night services

Candidate requirements

• Preferred Bachelor’s and Seminary degrees.
  • Concentration in theology and preaching preferred
• Preferred Seminary degree from a Southern Baptist seminary
• Required 5+ years experience in ministry
• Required to meet expectations for an overseer listed in:
  • 1 Timothy 3:1-7
  • 1 Peter 5:1-4
  • Titus 1:7-9
