About Bear Creek Baptist Church

Bear Creek Baptist Church is a historic Southern Baptist congregation located in Parsons, Tennessee, just minutes from the Tennessee River and situated roughly halfway between Memphis and Nashville. Our church was established over 175 years ago and is the second oldest church in Decatur County.

Recently, our congregation walked through a season of both loss and renewal. After our previous building was destroyed by fire, the Lord has provided a beautiful new church facility, giving us a fresh opportunity to pray, dream, and pursue the next chapter of ministry together.

Bear Creek Baptist Church is a Bible-centered, mission-minded congregation that affirms the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) and holds to historic Baptist doctrine, meaningful church membership, and the authority of Scripture. Our desire is to grow into a healthy, multi-generational church that proclaims Christ faithfully and reaches our community with the gospel.

We are prayerfully seeking a pastor who senses God’s call to shepherd our congregation and lead us into this new season of gospel ministry.

The Opportunity

The pastor of Bear Creek Baptist Church will serve as the primary spiritual leader and shepherd of the congregation, helping the church grow in love for Christ, devotion to Scripture, and engagement in the Great Commission.

This role is ideal for a man who:

·         Loves expository preaching and teaching the Bible

·         Desires to shepherd people personally

·         Is energized by the opportunity to revitalize and grow a historic church

·         Can lead with humility, conviction, and vision

Primary Responsibilities

Preaching & Teaching

·         Faithfully prepare and preach biblical sermons during Sunday services and other scheduled gatherings.

·         Teach Scripture clearly and help the congregation grow in spiritual maturity.

·         Ensure doctrinal faithfulness in all teaching ministries of the church.

Shepherding & Pastoral Care

·         Provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care to the congregation.

·         Visit members and families during times of need (hospitalizations, bereavement, crisis).

·         Offer biblical counseling, including premarital counseling when requested.

·         Officiate weddings and funerals as appropriate.

Leadership & Vision

·         Lead the church toward a clear vision for gospel impact in the community.

·         Work collaboratively with deacons, church officers, and ministry leaders.

·         Moderate church business meetings.

·         Help members discover and use their spiritual gifts in ministry.

Evangelism & Community Engagement

·         Encourage and equip the church to share the gospel with the lost.

·         Develop outreach efforts that connect Bear Creek Baptist Church with the surrounding community.

·         Encourage participation in missions and cooperative ministry.

Church Administration

·         Help guide the planning, organization, and evaluation of the church’s ministries.

·         Work with church leadership in developing a budget aligned with the church’s mission.

·         Maintain cooperative relationships with local, associational, and Southern Baptist partners.

Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

·         A clear testimony of salvation in Jesus Christ

·         A clear calling to pastoral ministry

·         Commitment to the Baptist Faith and Message (2000)

·         The biblical qualifications for pastors described in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5

·         A strong commitment to the authority and inerrancy of Scripture

·         Ability to teach and preach the Word effectively

·         Spiritual maturity, integrity, and servant-hearted leadership

Compensation & Benefits
