Director of Worship—Job Description

Calvary Baptist Church, Wilmington, Ohio

The Director of Worship will report to the Senior Pastor and serve to assist the Pastor in the routine ministerial duties of the church with special emphasis in Worship Ministries.  This will begin as a part-time position with some travel benefits and pay based on the experience of the person called to serve. As our church is growing about 10-15% per year, there is a reasonable possibility that this position could become full-time with some added ministry responsibilities.

·         Use their background in Music Theory, Ear Training and Reading Music to lead a team Musically and communicate this to the team clearly and confidently.

·         To seek to know, love, and minister to our congregation through worship ministry.  Providing a culture for our worship volunteers and congregation “to glorify God by developing as disciples who abide in Christ and walk in love toward God and others,” which is our purpose as a church.

·         Provide oversight and direction for the worship ministry of the church.  This will include working alongside our worship ministry volunteers, preparing and leading our morning worship in cooperation with our senior pastor.  Weekly rehearsals would include discipleship, skills and vocal development, and practice for Sunday worship.  Currently, rehearsal is held on Saturday morning and have only one service on Sunday morning.

·         Provide ministry care for church members and prospects, especially those who are involved in worship ministry, offering prayer, counsel, support, and weekly discipleship throughout practice and conversations with team members.

·         Our Worship Director would need to have a sense of calling to the work and a love for the people he or she serves.

·         Provide discipleship, training/equipping, and fellowship opportunities especially for the worship ministry volunteers in our church.

·         Give oversight and support for volunteers of children’s choirs, children’s church, youth worship, and protect the unity of the church.

·         Meet weekly with the Pastors for collaboration, evaluation, and planning for the overall worship, discipleship, and evangelistic work of the church.

·         Regular involvement of the Worship Director and his or her family in the routine church life of our congregation.  This would include biblical stewardship in giving and regular attendance and participation.

·         Maintain close fellowship with Christ, meet the moral qualifications of church leadership, be in agreement with our doctrinal beliefs,

·         Serve in other ministry capacities as the Pastor deems appropriate, putting in a regular 20-hour work week. This may include visitation at homes and hospitals.

·         It is understood that insubordination toward the Pastor, a change in marital status, creating disunity in the church, and immoral or illegal activity can result in termination of employment with the approval of the Deacons and the Senior Pastor.
