Full Time Pastor Full Time

Calvary Baptist Church on Edgewood Drive in Danville, Virginia, is prayerfully seeking a full-time pastor to lead in our mission to be faithful in worshiping God and bearing witness to the gospel near and far to a mission field expanding due to our city’s growth.  In pursuit of these goals we cooperate locally with the Pittsylvania Baptist Association, statewide with Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia, and nationally with the Southern Baptist Convention.  Established in 1918, we are a financially stable and debt free church with an average Sunday morning attendance in the low-to-mid 50s.  There is a parsonage next to the church available for the pastor.

Qualifications

*Requires the fulfillment or current pursuit of a theological degree from an accredited Christian college or seminary

*Requires basic training in counseling and willingness to refer difficult or special cases to other professionals more skilled in the specific area of need

*Requires ordination by a Baptist church

*Requires commitment to biblical Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally

*Applicant shall successfully pass criminal, financial, and sexual misconduct background checks

Principal Function

The pastor is responsible to the church for providing spiritual and administrative leadership of the church, consistent with the Church Covenant, Statement of Faith and By-Laws and is to use his skills in proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ and pastoral care to meet the needs of persons in the church and community.

Pastor’s Responsibilities

Provide Spiritual Leadership

*Preach the Gospel, lead worship services, ordinances, funerals, and weddings

*Establish regular Church office hours

*Lead members to so trust and love God that they desire to serve Him

*Lead the members to love one another and their neighbors

*Encourage stewardship and missions support

Provide Pastoral Leadership

*Visit church members

*Provide leadership and training for deacons and Sunday School workers

*Be available to counsel church members and attendees

Provide Outreach Leadership

*Train, organize and lead members to do visitation of and witnessing to unchurched persons

*Set example in the cultivation of unchurched persons

*Lead church in planning regular outreach/revival emphasis

Provide Administrative Leadership

*Serve as chairman of church council and serve as moderator of church business meetings

*Lead church to develop basic church programs

*Lead church to elect needed workers

*Lead church to train officers and workers

*Lead church to plan monthly/annual calendar

*Lead church to develop policies that help member participate in the church ministries
