The Director of Music Ministry exists to lead the congregation through music within church services to worship God. The Director of Music Ministry should lead with excellence, skill, and organization that will deepen and grow our worship of God and fellowship with Him as well as other believers. The Director of Music Ministry is responsible to the Senior Pastor and Elders for assisting the church in planning, conducting, and evaluating a biblical music ministry.
- This a non-exempt part-time position
- Work will be 20 hours per week
- Annual pay expected is $24,960 or $24 per hour
- Oversees, under the direction of the Senior Pastor, the organization of church services
- Recruits, directs, and trains music ministry volunteers including tech
- Cooperates and coordinates with other staff
- Engages in the life of the church as an active member of Churchill Baptist
CORE COMPETENCIES
The Director of Music Ministry is expected to be able to:
- Lead and direct congregational singing and music groups.
- Skillfully organize and coordinate church services with oversight from the Senior Pastor as representative of the Elders.
- Exercise a knowledgeable and teachable mind concerning sound biblical doctrine.
- Have technical knowledge of music and audio equipment.
- Assess the skills and competency of those volunteering in music ministry.
- Be a self-motivated and pro-active individual who works effectively with ministry teams and makes every effort to be a team player.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Ministry Administration:
- Plan and oversee the organization of church services under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
- At times, even if not actively leading the musical worship.
- Coordinate the rehearsal and performance schedules of musical and tech volunteers.
- Direct the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive Music Ministry.
- Coordinate the Church Music Ministry with the calendar and seasonal emphases of the church (ex: Palm Sunday, Easter, Advent, Christmas, and others).
- Prepare and present an annual ministry plan with goals for the year to the Senior Pastor and Elders. Annual plans are to be presented in September prior to the upcoming year.
- Forecast and prepare an annual budget for the music ministry.
Ministry Development:
- Be responsible for enlisting persons and determining their abilities prior to serving in the Church Music Ministry in cooperation with Senior Pastor.
- Coordinate training and development for other musicians involved in music ministry.
- Determine what musical materials, music or audio/visual equipment, supplies and instruments are needed for use in the church’s program.
- Be available to counsel on special projects, ministries, and other church-related activities in cooperation with other ministries as it relates to musical needs.
- Lifelong learner of a theology of worship and music, ministry trends in music methods, materials, promotion and administration.
- Professional development will be supported by the church of the Music Ministry Director by financially supporting training/education specific to church music.
Professional Duties:
- Establish work schedule and hours required with the Senior Pastor in consultation with the Personnel Committee.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Perform other ministry duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Educational requirement: Formal training or education in leading music preferred, but not required. Experience in lieu of formal education will be considered significantly.
- A desire to glorify God and serve His people through music.
- Skill and Ability requirements:
- Able to sing in tune, produce a pleasant sound, hit notes with consistency.
- Able to skillfully play guitar and or piano with relative competence preferred
- Able to use or learn ProPresenter software with relative ease
- Able to mentor and develop musicians and their abilities/gifts
- Able to read music would be preferred, but not requires
- Spiritual maturity evidenced by a fruitful, faithful, and consistent relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
- Aligns and agrees with the Church Belief Statement.
- Adheres to ethical and moral expectations of followers of Jesus in the Bible.
DIRECT REPORTS
Paid personnel and volunteers in the music ministry report to the Director of Music Ministry.
REPORTS TO
The Director of Music Ministry reports to the Senior Pastor.
