About the Children’s Director:

We are seeking to build our staff team with a Children’s Ministry Director to provide leadership, care, and strategic planning for the growing children’s ministry of Edgewood. The Children’s Ministry Director is responsible for providing a discipling environment where the gospel message can take root in the hearts of children, leading them to become lifelong followers of Christ. Partnering with parents, caregivers, and grandparents, the Children’s Ministry Director will lead, train, and recruit a team of servants in a comprehensive discipleship ministry for children from birth through the sixth grade.

Edgewood Baptist Pastor Brian Preaching The Children’s Director’s Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee all aspects of ministry to children, including weekend services, Awana, summer activities and outreaches.
  • Regularly review and evaluate all curriculum and programs according to Biblical faithfulness and lasting fruitfulness.
  • Recruit, equip, and train servant leaders and helpers in order to develop a Biblical worldview and a lifetime of devoted discipleship.
  • Ensure the safety and protection of children through policies, procedures, background checks, and child protection training.
  • Supervise part-time Nursery Coordinator and part-time Preschool Coordinator.
  • Develop a strategy for reaching and assimilating new children and families.
  • Encourage and register children for summer camps.
  • Oversee Operation Christmas Child.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with parents and caregivers through in-person meetings, mailings, emails, phone calls, and social media.
  • Manage the children’s ministry budget and steward resources.
  • Work with Youth Pastor to help children transition seamlessly to student ministry.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Willingness to collaborate with the Senior Pastor and the rest of the staff and leadership teams.
  • Oversee, lead, and develop the part time employees in the Children’s Ministry.

What You Bring:

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Children’s Director:

Education & Experience

  • 3+ years of applicable experience
  • Higher education degree, preferred
  • Leadership and administrative experience in children’s ministry
  • Training in Bible, theology, and doctrine

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Able to fulfill all requirements of church membership
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Proven character and competent skills
  • Must be able to work well on a team but also self-motivated to work alone
  • Exceptional people skills along with an ability to recruit, train, and motivate servants to be involved in children’s ministry
  • Must be a self-starter and an initiative-taker with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to accomplish tasks efficiently and effectively with minimal oversight
  • Ability to communicate effectively by teaching children in formal and informal settings
  • Expertise in both verbal and written skills
  • Ability to organize people and tasks without sacrificing community or the accomplishment of goals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn presentation software and Edgewood’s contact management program
  • Ability to communicate theology and doctrine truths in a way children can understand and embrace

  • Must be a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, having put their faith and trust in Him as Savior and Lord and be growing in Christlikeness
  • Must agree with Edgewood’s doctrinal statement
  • Must be “above reproach” (I Timothy 3:2)
  • Desire to be accountable to leadership
  • Must be an effective communicator and a strategic thinker and planner
  • Strong spiritual role model for children and the team of children’s ministry servants
  • Proven ministry track record with a good grasp and hearty endorsement of the Biblical orientation and values of Edgewood
  • Unwavering commitment to ignite the faith of children and a desire to help equip parents to be the primary disciplers of their children
  • Willingness to bring creativity and innovation to help reach and teach children in this cultural moment

Just a 10-minute drive across the river is Uptown Davenport, which features a few historic landmarks such as the Iowa Soldiers’ Orphans’ Home which took in homeless children from all of Iowa’s ninety-nine counties following the Civil War, and Ambrose Hall which was the original building of St. Ambrose University Aside from landmarks. Uptown contains some entertainment venues too, such as the Great Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, which hosts fairs, stock car racing, and many other events. NorthPark Mall is the city’s main shopping mall and has 160 stores.
