Associate Pastor/Worship Leader Full Time

Principal Role The associate pastor will assist the pastor in all areas of ministry of the church, with specific duties in planning, conducting, evaluating, and coordinating of the Worship Services. This role requires the person to be musically gifted, spiritually mature, and a biblically grounded Christian who can lead all worship ministries and equip the church for the works of ministry as well. The Associate Pastor will be responsible to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit of his own gifts and abilities as they benefit the church body. This person may have gifts and abilities that God has given for use in the kingdom, that are not included in this job description. The Associate Pastor will be encouraged to develop these gifts as they benefit the ministry of El Bethel Baptist Church, although these other ministries should not detract from this job description.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist the senior pastor in all facets of ministry (visitation, counseling, funerals, etc.)
  2. Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the senior pastor.
  3. Oversee and lead some of the various ministries that are in alignment with your spiritual gifting and passion.
  4. Act as senior pastor as directed or in the absence of the senior pastor.
  5. Attend all staff meetings and church council meetings. Attend other meetings as needed.
  6. Attend relevant seminars and conferences as time and resources allow.
  7. Through self-initiative, seek out opportunities for continuing education with the objective to stay on top of current trends and for the betterment of self.
  8. Attend all scheduled church services and business meetings or make arrangements for your coverage for excused absences.
  9. Create an article for each church newsletter.

Duties Specific to the role as Worship Leader

  1. Supervise all music ministries and the worship technology ministry.
  2. Lead the music portion of the worship services.
  3. Plan the order of service with the Senior Pastor and Pastoral Staff each week and to create and coordinate all aspects of a creative worship service.
  4. Develop a process to regularly identify and train new volunteers in the church’s worship and media ministries.
  5. Work with other ministry leaders to provide age-graded worship experiences within the church.
  6. Shepherd, train, manage, and care for the volunteers in the worship and media ministries.
  7. Direct the adult worship choir and praise team, lead adult music practices, and oversee all music-related groups.
  8. Evaluate all music programs at the church on at least an annual basis.
  9. Oversee the maintenance of all musical instruments owned by the church.
  10. Continually strive to assimilate new families into the life of the church and encourage disconnected families to reconnect to the church family as well as encourage other church members to do the same.
  11. Prepare and manage the annual budget for the needs of worship ministry and media ministry, and present to the budget and finance committee for review and approval.

Qualifications

  • Espouse an unquestioned and vital commitment to Jesus as personal Savior and Lord.
  • Understanding of and willing to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church.
  • Be thoroughly evangelical in faith, doctrine, and practice as understood by the Baptist Faith and Message.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in personal witness and in the implementation of an effective ministry.
  • Have a personal character and lifestyle, family life, emotional and physical state of health that is acceptable in accordance with 1 Timothy 3.
  • Possess strong motivational skills, a high level of organization, and an understanding of the diplomacy and flexibility when working in a church setting.
  • Have a calling into pastoral ministry.
  • Have significant skill as a vocalist and/or instrumentalist.
  • Have a broad knowledge of Christian worship music across multiple styles and generational tastes.
  • Be proficient in reading music and able to lead a choir and praise team.

Education/Experience

  • College graduate and a degree from an accredited seminary or equivalent experience considered optimum. Some formal training in music (and specifically church music) is preferred.
  • Education and experience commensurate with leading worship time for a blended service and enhancing the worship and music experience throughout the church.
  • Experience in leading and managing a choir, praise team, and other teams.

Chain of Command As documented in the Personnel Structure.

Compensation The salary and other benefits will be determined by experience, commensurate with other staff members, and within the approved salary guidelines revealed in the annual budget. The Personnel Committee will review the salary each year.
