Pastor Job Description

1. Preaching:

a. Preach the Gospel, inspired by the Holy Spirit.

2. Leadership:

a. Promote the spiritual interest of the church through prayerful leadership.

b. Provide pastoral care and counseling:

i. Delegate, as appropriate, to staff members and refer to professional Christian

counselors as needed.

c. Provide leadership in the planning and development of worship services alongside church

staff.

d. Represent the church by serving on appropriate committees or boards of the denomination

and organizations within the community as time and opportunity allow.

3. Administration:

a. Serve as Chief Administrator over all staff.

i. Collaborate with Personnel Committee in accordance with church by-laws for

employment of ministerial staff.

ii. Support, supervise, and evaluate church staff.

iii. Fill role as Chief Administrator over all church meetings, or delegate administration

to other staff as appropriate.

b. Provide leadership and vision while guiding staff, committees, and deacons within the

bylaws.

c. Contribute toward the development and execution of a fiscally responsible budget in

accordance with the financial policies of the church.

d. Attend church council and deacon meetings.

4. Shepherding/Discipleship:

a. Facilitate pastoral care ministry for the church body through the visitation of the hospitalized,

sick, homebound, or grieving.

b. Support mission efforts financially through the church giving programs.

5. Characteristics:

a. Spirit led as evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit.

b. Proficient, experienced, and gifted in Gospel centered expository preaching.

c. Hold to the doctrinal beliefs of the Southern Baptist Convention as stated in the Baptist Faith

and Message 2000.

6. Experience:

a. Undergraduate degree.

b. Master of Divinity or graduate degree from an accredited seminary or theological institution

preferred or in progress.

c. 5 years pastoral experience preferred.

7. Compensation:

a. Salary and benefits for this position will be commensurate with experience and

qualifications.
