ActiveJob Description – This is a part-time, salaried position that reports directly to the Lead pastor. This position exists primarily to lead the people of First Baptist Charlestown in multi-generational worship experiences that help them connect meaningfully with God. Ultimately, the goal of worship ministry is to lead people to glorify God. Our worship pastor will be tasked with leading the congregation into the throne room of God and to shepherd them through biblically based worship in response to Jesus Christ and His worth.
Primary Function – In collaboration with Lead Pastor/Elders, the worship pastor is responsible to the church for the planning, development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of the music ministry, including corporate and personal worship.
Personal Qualifications and Skills
· Possesses character qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
· Testimony of personal salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, Baptized by immersion, and a growing personal walk with the Lord.
· Affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as a statement of belief and has a solid biblical foundation.
· Committed to being a growing disciple of Jesus who makes disciples.
· Gifted in singing/leading worship and has a pastor’s heart to shepherd those volunteering in the worship ministry and the congregation to grow in their love and worship of King Jesus.
· Gifted in communication, organization, and the ability to plan clearly and set goals for the ministry.
· Exhibits a love for people and willingness to encourage and support others in their walk with Jesus.
· A good understanding of technology concerning worship ministry.
· Skills: Strong leadership, communication, proficiency in technology pertaining to sound equipment and musical instruments
Primary Responsibilities
· Work with the Lead Pastor/Elders to establish, communicate, and implement a vision for the Overall Worship Ministry that is in line with the church’s vision, and then oversee all aspects of this ministry. Develop and maintain relationships with worship team members and assimilate future members.
· Initiate regular communication with the church regarding the worship ministry and ensure regular communication within the worship team.
· Maintain a music library, materials, supplies, musical instruments, and other equipment.
· Direct and/or supervise all aspects of the worship ministry. This includes but is not limited to planning weekly practices and Sunday morning rehearsals. Scheduling the rotation of musicians and the tech team. Ensuring music is distributed in a timely manner in preparation for services. Recruiting and creating on-ramps for people to get involved in worship ministry, etc.
· Seek out and encourage the development and involvement of personal talents which can be expressed in worship.
· Work with the Lead Pastor/Elders in planning for all worship services.
· Ensure that songs used in worship are biblically based and consistent with the character of God and his truth. Look to incorporate scripture, prayer, and be open and receptive to the Holy Spirit’s leading in worship gatherings, while helping to shepherd the congregation in worship.
· Research and explore methods, materials, promotion, and administration of worship.
· Prepare and administer an annual music budget according to the church guidelines.
· Provide pastoral care, ministry, training, and encouragement to those serving in worship ministry.
· Perform such other duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.
· Be an active and committed member of FBC
· An estimated commitment of 20 hours/week with attendance & participation in weekly staff meetings.
