Music Director Part Time

Purpose of Position:
The Music Director provides vision, direction, development and management for all aspects of the
music ministry and media.
Education and Experience:
● Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent
● Preferred: Experience in leading music
● Preferred: Experience playing an instrument
Qualifications:
● A follower of Jesus Christ who follows The Great Commission and models healthy church and
family life by maintaining appropriate spiritual discipline
● Dynamic personality who loves music and seeks to develop a passion for music ministry in the
church
● Team player that supports the overall mission of the church
● Ability to delegate when appropriate
● Public relations skills to effectively communicate expectations and strengthen the music ministry
of the church
● A thorough knowledge of music including musical notations and leadership of singing to lead a
variety of music
● Applicable leadership and management skills
General Responsibilities:
● Assist the pastor in worship planning and worship services
● Caption lyrics for Sunday services through Pro Presenter Software
● Provide a variety of music selections for worship services keeping in mind the general makeup
of the congregation
● Coordinate with accompanists for worship services
● Lead a blended model of congregational singing in worship
● Prepare and provide music for worship services including special services such as Christmas,
Easter, Revivals, Funerals, etc.
● Coordinate and assist in the training of choirs and musicians that participate in worship and
special services
● Encourage and coordinate special music recognizing various talents of the church family
● Facilitate and assist praise team with selecting music, holding practices, recruiting new
members, and updating the praise music inventory
● Secure someone to lead the worship music when absences occur
● Ensure all music selections are biblically and theologically accurate
● Work in conjunction with the sound booth volunteers to train and develop a schedule to work the
sound at all services
● Schedule and coordinate or direct practices for any instrumental aspects of worship including
pianist, organist, guitarist and any other instruments he or she sees fit for heartfelt worship

● Lead in the recruitment of volunteers for the music program by encouraging church members to
join the choir and or praise team
● Provide weekly announcements related to music
● Maintain and inventory all music related material and schedule preventative maintenance, repair
and service of all musical instruments
● Assist with Children’s ministry music for plays, VBS and children’s choir
● Maintain all music materials and licenses in addition to media software to ensure all equipment
is in working condition.
● Stay informed about the trends in music and music education
● Prepare and submit a budget to the budget committee and operate within the bounds of the
approved budget.
