Purpose: The Discipleship Pastor is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing the process and efforts of First Baptist Martin to reach people with the Gospel, assimilate them into the church and help them to become maturing disciples of Jesus Christ.

Qualifications:

·       Must meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9

·       Be in full agreement with our statement of faith (Baptist Faith and Message 2000)

·       Demonstrate a growing relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced by action, attitude, and behavior.

·       Have a clear call to vocational ministry and a passion for discipleship.

·       Have ministry experience in discipleship ministries and church assimilation.

·       Possess organizational and administrative abilities to lead multiple areas of related ministry and coordinate                many volunteers.

·       Ability to work with people of various temperaments, gifts, passions, and church backgrounds.

·       Desire to work closely with others (especially staff) to develop meaningful partnerships and relationships.

·       Possess a giftedness and confidence in public teaching and various forms of communication.

Essential Job Duties

·       Lead the church in planning, implementing, and evaluating a long-term, comprehensive strategy for adult                    discipleship and the spiritual growth of our members and families.

·       Assist the Senior Pastor in designing a strategy to train our members in evangelism.

·       Oversee the Greeter/Welcome teams, designing and implementing a welcome strategy.

·       Design and oversee a visitor follow-up strategy.

·       Evaluate and recommend the best available curriculum, teaching material and resources for all FBC small                    groups and ministries.

·       Recruit new group leaders and provide continual training and assistance for all group leaders.

·       Develop and give oversight to a clear and effective strategy to help attendees efficiently take the next steps in their relationship with God and assimilate into the church community.

·       Work with other staff members to help groups become more outwardly focused to minister to others and share the hope of the Gospel within our community.

·       Assist the Senior Pastor to ensure sound doctrine is maintained in all teaching environments in the church.

·       Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor and other members of the pastoral team for planning and to maintain unity of purpose.

·       Fulfilling other pastoral and administrative duties as requested by the Senior Pastor.

Education and Experience

·       A master’s degree or higher in Biblical studies or ministry related field is preferred. (Other candidates will be considered based on years of training and experience in discipleship ministries)

·       Experience in discipleship within a church, Christian organization or ministry.
