Job Description
Summary:
The Youth/Young Adult Minister oversees and executes ministry initiatives aimed at encouraging
outreach, discipleship, and ministry engagement among youth and young adults. As a
multigenerational church, this stage of ministry is crucial for passing on a vibrant and thriving
faith in Jesus Christ from one generation to the next. The main role of the Youth/Young Adult
Minister is to cultivate a growing and healthy next generation of leaders and disciples for Jesus
Christ at FBC Meridianville.
Accountability:
The Youth/Young Adult Minister will primarily be accountable to the Lead Pastor, with input
and oversight provided by other pastoral staff and the Personnel Committee.
Function:
The Youth/Young Adult Minister will implement and oversee discipleship and ministry
initiatives for youth (grades 7-12) and young adults (ages 18-25). They will assist our church
family in reaching, loving, and making disciples of our youth and young adults by leading them
to engage in the church’s vision to Gather, Grow, Give, and Go as disciples of Jesus.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
● A born-again believer with a maturing relationship with Christ.
● Demonstrates faithful pursuit of leadership characteristics as listed in 1 Timothy 3.
● Demonstrates a “calling” to serve God in this position.
● Has prepared for the position by pursuing theological and ministry training, with studies
in theology, Christian education, youth ministry, or young adult ministry. A general
knowledge and ability to teach the Bible is essential.
● Committed to expositional “Word-Driven” teaching and preaching.
● Possesses a passion for personal evangelism and outreach.
● Able to plan, organize, and implement ministry programs.
● Two or more years of experience in leading and teaching youth ministry programs.
● Demonstrates the ability to raise up, disciple, equip, and empower others.
● Sensitive to the needs and pressures of teens and young adults, with knowledge of
potential solutions.
● Proficient in technology and social media platforms to effectively engage with youth and
young adults in the digital realm.
● Personally subscribes to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
Responsibilities:
Youth Ministry 60%
● Oversee the Junior High and High School Ministry of the Church.
● Partner with parents to foster a disciple-making culture, providing them with support and
resources.
● Develop leadership volunteers to assist with the ministry.
● Cultivate shepherding relationships with students to promote personal discipleship.
● Oversee weekly teaching and youth gatherings (Sunday morning, Sunday night,
Wednesday evening).
● Strategize and execute a comprehensive ministry program throughout the year,
incorporating activities and retreats to foster spiritual growth and facilitate the transition
to young adulthood (such as D-Now Retreats, Summer Camp, Mission Trips, Bible
Conferences, etc.).
● Engage with local middle schools, high schools, and homeschool groups to participate in
on-campus ministry activities.
● Encourage evangelism and seek to lead the youth ministry in a way that creates an
attractive and compelling environment for non-Christians to engage with the Gospel.
● Shepherd the lives of young people, either directly or through youth leaders, by engaging
in activities such as home visits, attending school events, and making hospital visits.
● Maintain cultural awareness of current youth ministry challenges and cultural dynamics,
including social media trends and broader cultural shifts.
Young Adults Ministry 20%
● Oversee the Young Adults Ministry of the Church (Ages 18-25.)
● Work to develop leadership volunteers to assist with the ministry.
● Oversee the planning and execution of Young Adult Ministry regular gatherings and
special gatherings.
● Engage with local university campuses and ministries to develop relationships and
ministry connections with young adults to benefit the ministry.
● Develop personal relationships with young adults to help guide them in discipleship and
service to the Church.
Personal Ministry Development / Administration 20%
● Meet regularly with the Lead and Associate Pastor for ministry development and
assessment.
● Ensure responsibilities for all events are delegated and understood by Youth leaders.
● Plan and schedule activities comprehensively, including post-activity plans.
● Oversee budget and fundraising for youth/young adult ministries.
● Ensure the safety of participants in meetings and activities.
● Regularly create and publish digital content to effectively promote youth events, service
opportunities, and provide spiritual encouragement to students.
● Champion the church vision, unity, and participation to underscore the importance of
multi-generational ministry.
● Attend worship services and church events regularly, setting an example for youth/young
adult participation.
● Continued growth and development through conferences, reading, and exchange of ideas
in mentoring relationships.
● Assist pastoral ministry staff in pastoral assignments.
● Perform other ministry tasks as assigned.
