Part-Time Youth Minister – Job Description

Objective
The Youth Minister will provide strong Christian leadership for the Youth Ministry through biblical teaching, Gospel-centered discipleship, and Christlike encouragement. This role includes responsibility for planning, practicing, and leading programs for students in grades  6-12.

The Youth Minister will serve as a vision carrier for First Baptist Church Chula and act as a welcoming first contact who encourages guests and youth to take their next steps toward Christ.

This position oversees the planning and implementation of age-appropriate programs for students in grades 6–12, including Sunday gatherings, midweek ministry, special events, camps, and discipleship opportunities. The Youth Minister works with the Senior Pastor, the Children’s Committee, and all FBC Chula ministries to ensure smooth transitions from children’s ministry to student ministry and ultimately into adult ministry, while actively connecting students with church ministries, local missions, and the life of the church.

Responsibilities
Encourage and uphold the overall vision and direction of FBC Chula through the Student Ministry
Direct and organize all weekly student programs
Plan, coordinate, and execute all major student events (DNOW, summer camps, retreats, and additional approved events) with the assistance of the Youth Committee. 
Goal of 1 monthly youth event should be planned
Identify, recruit, train, schedule, and develop adult volunteers to serve in Student Ministry
Monitor and approve all student curriculum in partnership with the Senior Pastor
Work with the Senior Pastor and church staff to create and implement strategies to grow the Student Ministry and the overall congregation
Oversee weekly operations including communication, social media, team meetings, and other ministry functions
Develop and implement follow-up plans for new students and for students and adult volunteers who become inactive
Attend weekly staff meetings when they do not conflict with outside employment
Serve on the Youth Committee (meets monthly)
Oversee the Youth Committee budget following the procedures of FBC Chula
Attend all church leadership meetings and functions
Remain actively involved in the worship life of the congregation
Present a positive and encouraging outlook on FBC Chula and its ministries
Assist in church events and functions as deemed necessary by the Senior Pastor
Communicate schedules and information to volunteers and parents in advance
Review, understand, and execute the child protection policy

Qualifications
Meets the hiring criteria of First Baptist Chula Pastoral Leadership
Clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ with a humble and teachable spirit
Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, parents, and church members
Competent in church ministry, particularly youth ministry
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
Exhibit the qualities and attributes found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7

Required Skills
Ability to teach God’s Word to students at different levels of understanding and spiritual maturity
Be willing to invest in the spiritual lives of youth through Christian mentorship and a shepherding heart
Strong verbal communication and organizational skills
Be knowledgeable of basic Baptist Doctrine and agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
Working knowledge of youth culture

Work Schedule
Approximately 24 hours per week  
Oversee/Lead Sunday morning Sunday School Class, Wednesday Night Youth class, Sunday night Discipleship Class
Remain actively involved in the worship life of the congregation

Personal Time Off (PTO)
One week of paid vacation after 6 months
Two weeks of paid vacation after 1 year
Three weeks of paid vacation after 5 years (standard for all church staff)
