ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF STUDENTS & FAMILIES

Job Description

 

PRINCIPLE FUNCTION:

The Associate Pastor of Students & Families will develop, implement, and coordinate ministry to students (grades 6th-12th) and their parents.  The Associate Pastor of Students & Families will oversee and help implement the strategy for discipleship for students and young families and help them integrate and become involved in the life and mission of First Baptist Church of Dallas, GA.

 

The Associate Pastor of Students & Families will serve under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and will work in collaboration with the Associate Pastor of Children & Families in the continuing development of a Christian family ministry.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Plan, organize, and lead student (grades 6th-12) ministries.

a.      In cooperation with the Pastor to organize and plan the structure and flow of the discipleship for the stages of life students develop spiritually.

b.     Provide overall vision and leadership to students and young families that will encourage spiritual growth and integration into the church.

c.      Develop a culture that mobilizes students and families to reach those who are not yet connected to the church.

d.     Develop and implement a comprehensive ministry plan that helps encourage the next generation to take the next steps on their spiritual journey.

e.      Build volunteer teams to help foster relationships with the next generation. 

f.      Partner with parents in strategic ways that encourages and assists them to provide strong spiritual guidance and direction for their children.

g.     Work in collaboration with Director of Children’s Minister to organize and plan a holistic ministry approach for children as they prepare to transition into student ministry.

 

2.     Administer the student ministry program effectively.

a.      Attend staff and program meetings to provide professional guidance and assist in planning to ensure a high-quality ministry program.

b.     Lead the enlistment, training, and support of student leaders, parents, and volunteers.

a.      Work with youth committees in the promotion, planning, and implementation of activities, coordinating curriculum and events.

b.     Prepare and administer student budgets and designated accounts according to church policies.

c.      Oversee/lead ongoing weekly student activities, including Sunday School and activities on Wednesday evenings.

d.     Provide, lead, and administer opportunities for special experiences such as camps, retreats, mission trips, outings, fellowships, and ministry projects.

e.      Engage students outside of church by finding ways to spend time with them, such as, attending extracurricular activities (band concerts, quiz bowl, sports events etc.) whenever possible.

f.      Set annual student ministry goals.

g.     Oversee background check procedure and child protection policy procedures in accordance with church policy.

h.     Plan, coordinate, and implement a yearly calendar in conjunction with the Church calendar in collaboration with all ministries.

i.       Other duties as assigned by the Pastor, Executive Council, or Personnel Committee.

 

3.     Continue to grow professionally as a leader and minister.

a.      Remain abreast of current developments in student/youth ministry by maintaining contact with other churches and professional groups.

b.     Be active in professional development through continuing education, reading current literature, and participating in professional organizations.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.     Personal

a.      Firm personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

b.     Strong leadership, organizational, administrative, and motivational skills

 

2.     Professional

a.      Has expressed and demonstrated a call to ministry to students (birth-12th grades) and families.

b.     Experience with students and/or family ministry (2-5 years preferred)

c.      Ability to connect relationally with parents and children

d.     Ability and willingness to live in and develop community relationships locally in accordance with our church vision.

e.      A passion to create an environment for spiritual growth in students and their families

f.      Strong abilities and experience in equipping leaders and working with teams

g.     Proven ability to develop and implement strategy

h.     A willingness and ability to pioneer new things and inspire others to new initiatives

i.       Good teaching ability and communication skills

j.       Ability to make a creative contribution to the total church program.

k.     Ministerial concern for all persons connected with student ministries.

l.       Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people of all ages.

 

3.     Education:

a.      High School Diploma is required.

b.    Bachelor’s Degree or higher is preferred, however experience in related ministry may be substituted.
