Position Overview:

First Baptist Church (FBC) is embarking on a comprehensive search for a full-time Pastor who will build on our 130-year legacy of faithful service to God in the Easton community and around the world.  The next Pastor should be a man of proven faith, and Christian character, exhibiting clear evidence of being called into the Gospel ministry.   He must manifest the qualifications for an overseer as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.  He should also be a visionary leader, strong communicator and administrator who can inspire, motivate, and demonstrate the love of Jesus in both word and action.

Baseline Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of ministry experience, preferably as a Senior or Associate Pastor.
A degree from a conservative, evangelical seminary, Master of Divinity desired.
Doctrinal alignment with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000 Revision).
Embodies the biblical model for a servant leader.

Highly Desired Characteristics:

Gifted Communicator:  Proficiency in preparing, and delivering sermons with strong theological acumen and inspirational illustrations that change lives.
Capable Administrator: Strong organizational skills and ease with delegating and managing multiple lines of effort by team building, motivation, and collaboration.
Character Traits: Personal warmth, empathy, humility, and self-awareness.  A good sense of humor is a real plus.
Heart for Ministry: Ability to embrace and live out our church motto: “Becoming more like Christ by loving God, loving others, and loving to serve.”

About Us:

FBC is a traditional congregation with a membership of 100-125 and a budget of $350,000.  Our membership has a heart for missions and follows Baptist Polity and Governance.  The church is in the town limits of Easton, a municipality of 17,000+ that sits on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore and Washington, D.C are a short drive away.

Salary and Benefits:

Pay Range: $70,000 – $85,000
Health Care Stipend: Up to $15,000
Paid Vacation: 4 weeks
Other: Housing Allowance approved by the church and authorized by IRS Pub. 517

Selected Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership

Advance spiritual growth of congregation by providing teaching and guidance, addressing sin with truth and grace; guide evangelism efforts by fostering a culture for reaching the lost.
Promote the value and importance of small, intimate Bible study groups, resulting in stronger relationships among the membership and a reliance on God.

Pastoral Care

Shepherd congregation with compassion, humility, and good listening skills.
Minister to the needs of members facing personal crises, illness, or grief, and actively participate in a regular congregational visitation program.

Personal and Spiritual Growth

Maintain a solid personal testimony, an active and relational prayer life, biblical study, and professional development.
Participate in church activities and perform acts of service for others inside and outside the church.

Strategic Vision, Direction, and Community Engagement

Collaborate with church leaders on the development of growth strategies that generate enthusiasm.
Strengthen a vibrant Missions Program, synchronizing all activities in new and innovative ways while leveraging existing Baptist relationships.
Foster connections and develop partnerships with local leaders, clergy and organizations to extend the church’s reach in the community.

Administration, Management, and Accountability

Facilitate key activities and tasks by employing proven administrative techniques and providing effective oversight.
Serve as a spiritual advisor in the ex-officio role on all ministry teams and committees.
Embrace the Congregationalist model in governance mechanisms and encourage active engagement by lay people that reaches consensus in decision-making.
Recognize the importance of accountability first and foremost to God, followed by the Deacons, congregation, and individual members.
