Senior Pastor Full Time
First Baptist ChurchActive
First Baptist Church of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, is seeking a senior pastor.
We are over two hundred years old, and our current sanctuary (built in 1965) was once the largest auditorium in our county. But, like many churches, our membership has declined in the last several years, and now about a hundred people gather for worship on Sunday mornings.
As a church body, we are studying the problems that have contributed to our decline and are dedicated to making the changes needed to move forward as a healthy church. Our remaining members – including many who are faithful and generous in their financial support – are praying for a return to a God-centered, ministry- based, and outwardly-focused community church.
What do we envision in a senior pastor?
A disciple maker. Someone who is fulfilling the Great Commission through the in-depth discipleship of believers at every stage of their faith development. He should be effective at translating Biblical truths into real-life applications so that we can meaningfully serve others and share the Gospel.
A relationship builder. We are praying for someone with a track record of building effective relationships – with his co-pastors, with his non-pastoral church colleagues, with the individuals and families of his community, and with neighbors and friends outside of his church. We want a senior pastor who will respect God’s call on the life of our other ministers, recognize and build upon their strengths, and mentor their professional development. In other words – cultivate those relationships, too!
A co-laborer. He should be a leader who rolls up his sleeves to engage and work alongside members of our church in ministry.
Here’s a little bit about us.
Our worship pastor is leading us in an increasingly modern direction while still featuring some favorite classic hymns. Take a look at http://www.fbchopkinsville.com or find us on Facebook by searching for First Baptist Church, Hopkinsville, KY to see some current services.
Our youth have been deeply impacted by the many twists and turns of the Covid outbreak. Our youth pastor, who was brand new when the outbreak hit, managed through sheer creativity to hold onto a core of students. Currently, we lack the number of volunteers needed to expand the youth program or our children’s programs.
Our weekday ministries operation provides daycare, aftercare, and preschool programs for one hundred children (babies through early elementary school). It has remained open except when closures were mandatory and functional throughout the Covid outbreak, in spite of the many challenges it has faced.
Our large, well-maintained building is in desperate need of one thing – more ways to use this resource to touch lives in our community.
Here are some nuts-and-bolts qualifications that are important to us and are open to discussion:
- Good administrative skills including the ability to manage and mentor staff
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (though a seminary degree has been the norm for us)
- Ability to present biblical teaching in a relatable, engaging way
- Disciplined speaking skills
- Experience in developing strategic plans for a church
- An interest in developing a small group ministry focused on discipleship
- Experience in the financial stewardship of a larger church
Does this sound overly optimistic?
Here’s the truth: we believe that God is calling someone with precisely these gifts and abilities – and then some – and that this is not a tall order for the Lord. And we are willing to pray, and search, and fast, and network until God makes His will clear to us, and to the man that He is calling.
We are praying for you by name. We don’t know your name (yet) but God does! We want to serve alongside that person whom God is calling. Please pray with us, and submit a cover letter, resume, and links to sermon samples to [email protected] if you believe God may want you to start packing boxes and heading toward Hopkinsville!
There is no official deadline. We will accept applications until we find the right candidate, reviewing resumes as they are received. And we’ll do our best to communicate with you in a timely manner to let you know where you stand in the application process. Thank you for your interest and may God bless you in your search – wherever it is that He leads you.
Don’t know anything about Hopkinsville? We are the county seat of Christian County (which has a nice ring to it), located in the western part of the state. Located about 60 miles northwest of Nashville, Tennessee, we are famous for a thriving high tech agriculture industry and for our location near the Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area (a camping, fishing, boating and hiking supersite).
