Also include how you came to be in ministry and how God is leading you to pursue the position of Lead Pastor at First Baptist Church West Yellowstone. Please email all the above as well as any other information you would like to include to [email protected].
Preferences:
Applicants must be ordained and affirm the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message as well as fulfill the requirements of the Profile of Characteristics, Qualities and Convictions of our Pastor listed below. Pastoral experience and seminary education from one of the Southern Baptist Convention seminaries would be preferred but is not required.
Goal:
Our goal is to find the man who has a clear calling from the Lord to be our Lead Pastor; to lead in proclaiming the true gospel written in God’s Word, reaching individuals for Christ, fostering spiritual growth, engaging with the surrounding community, and adding to the growth of our church family. Our Pastor will have support and encouragement from the church and will be accountable to the church.
Profile of Characteristics, Qualities, and Convictions of our Pastor:
● Acknowledge Jesus Christ as his LORD and Savior
● Believe the Bible is the inspired, only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
● Believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
● Believe the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood on the cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.
● Believe that all men everywhere are lost and face the judgment of God and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.
● In order for the lost and sinful man to gain salvation, he must repent of sin and place his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This faith results in a new birth by the Holy Spirit.
● Believe God will reward the righteous, saved man with eternal life in heaven and that He will banish the unrighteous, unbelieving man to everlasting punishment in hell.
● Believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling enables Christians to live a godly life.
● Believe in the spiritual unity of Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and that all true Believers are members of the body, the church.
● Believe that the ministry of evangelism (sharing and proclaiming the message of salvation only possible by grace through faith in Jesus Christ) and discipleship (helping followers of Christ grow up into maturity in Christ) is a responsibility of all followers of Jesus Christ.
● Believe Gods plan for human sexuality is to be expressed only within the context of marriage, that God created man and woman as unique biological persons made to complement each other.
● Believe God instituted monogamous marriage between man and woman as the foundation of the family and the basic structure of human society. For this reason, we believe that marriage is exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female.
● Believe that we must dedicate ourselves to prayer, to the service of our Lord, to His authority over our lives and to the ministry of evangelism.
Financial Provisions:
Our Lead Pastor would potentially need to be bi-vocational or have an additional source of income. We would expect him to work 20-30 hrs per week based on the needs of the congregation, church and community. This schedule would be amended as ministry needs change and grow. The specifics of hours, pay and benefits would be addressed in detail if a compensation package would be offered. Benefits would include church parsonage.
Our Church Statement of Belief:
We are a member lead church located in West Yellowstone, Montana who believes that the Bible is the only source of authority for all matters of faith and practice. We believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, and having placed our faith in Him, is the only way to be delivered from a life of sin and eternal death through the sinless life, death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Our church is comprised of persons who profess a personal faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior, have been baptized by Believers baptism (immersion) according to the New Testament, and actively follow the Lord Jesus Christ.
● We believe there is one God eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
● We believe that Gods plan for human sexuality is to be expressed only within the context of marriage and that this marriage is exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female.
● We believe that human life is sacred from conception to it natural end and that we must have a concern for the physical and spiritual needs of our fellowmen.
● We are an active member of Montana Southern Baptist Convention and will insofar as practical, will cooperate with and support said organization.
● We exist to:
● Provide worship experiences for our membership and for the greater Christian community in the West Yellowstone area that celebrate the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
● Fulfill the Great Commission by introducing our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ to as many persons in the West Yellowstone area as possible through as many methods as possible, i.e. weekly worship service, bible study, community events and involvement, for the goal of leading them to salvation in Jesus Christ.
● To disciple believers and mature them to the point where they recognize their spiritual gifts and serve God through the ministry of their local church, through their secular occupations and through their community involvement.
Our Church History:
First Baptist Church was started in 1968. The land for the church building was donated by Gene and Ernie Wilson and the majority of first attendees were employees of the lumber mill that was once located just south of town. After the mill closed summer attendance was mostly tourists visiting Yellowstone. The church has had only 2 pastors in the last 50 years and strives to serve the West Yellowstone Community and visitors year round.
Our Community:
Located near the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park, West Yellowstone provides easy access to some of the most beautiful and breathtaking natural wonders in the world. The town has a small-town feel, with restaurants and shops that offer an array of local goods and services. The people of West Yellowstone are friendly and welcoming. There is an abundance of outdoor activities. West is approximately 80 miles for Bozeman, Montana to the north and 90 miles from Idaho Falls to the south.
Ministry opportunities for FBC West Yellowstone are primarily 2-fold. West Yellowstone has a year-round population of approximately 1000 residents. During the Summer Season for the Park the resident population grows to a little over 3000. It is estimated that about 30 to 40 percent of the population has some religious affiliation. There are four other denominations represented in town. The LDS church, The Church of Christ, The Catholic Church, and The Protestant Church. By ethnicity, 17.70% of the total population of West Yellowstone is Hispanic or Latino.
With only 30 to 40 percent of the population having any religious affiliation, our first ministry focus is to share Jesus Christ to as many persons as possible. Some of our ministry programs include, Sports Camp, Kids In The Park, and special community fellowship activities.
With West Yellowstone being a resort community, we may have as many as 20,000 visitors in town on any given night during the peak of the summer season. Given the large influx of people during the summer, we have a unique opportunity to focus on resort ministry to those visiting and recreating in and around Yellowstone National Park.
FBC West Yellowstone’s current membership is less than 15 full time residents. During winter we do have some resort visitation but there are times due to weather conditions we may have less than 10 in attendance. During the summer season we have several couples that spend the entire summer in West Yellowstone. With summer resort visitation our Sunday attendance usually ranges between 40 to 60. We also have a large Hispanic population that resides here year round.
FBC West Yellowstone has a presence in the digital space through our First Baptist Church West Yellowstone Facebook page and website at www.fbcwestyellowstone.com. We also use both Zoom and Facebook live to reach out to our digital community each Sunday.
