Position Summary – We are looking for someone who will passionately lead our congregation in beautiful worship using both old and new hymns with a variety of instruments. They will prayerfully plan, oversee, and lead worship for weekly and special services while working closely with the Pastoral staff.

Compensation – We are committed to paying the state average (or higher depending on experience and ability). Vacation includes 4 Sundays. Housing allowance and expense account provided. We do not provide insurance at this time.

Description of Church – We are a church family devoted to the Word, to Worship, to the Fellowship, and to the Ministry of the Gospel. First Baptist Church is located in a main suburb area of Irmo right outside of Columbia, SC. The church is made up of members from the surrounding neighborhoods and towns within 15 miles (Ballentine, Dutch Fork, Lexington, Chapin, and even Little Mountain). We are a very active church family that is growing in all ages (avg 210 on Sunday mornings). Sermons are verse-by-verse expository and Christ-centered. Our services are more traditional and we have those dressed formally and casually. We cherish our older hymns, but also enjoy singing the newer hymns. New sanctuary renovation to be completed in 2026!

Requirements (*marks full-time requirements)

Affirm BF&M 2000
Experience in leading worship for both old and new hymns
Able to read music, and knowledgeable in leading/directing choirs and instrumentalists (degree or an equivalent competency)
Able to lead worship vocally with an instrument
Knowledgeable in AV equipment and use
An energetic leader, team player, and high-capacity to manage multiple projects
*Able to disciple and provide pastoral leadership across different areas
*Able to develop short-term(2-5yrs) and long-term(5-10yrs) goals for the worship ministry
*Able to take on additional ministry leadership in some other area 

Responsibilities (*marks full-time responsibilities)

Maintain a passion and character consistent with the calling of the position
Plan and organize the order of services for Sunday worship in cooperation with the Senior Pastor
Lead the congregation in worship with joy; guiding the congregation in song, prayer, and scripture to create an engaging experience focused on God
Direct, lead, and disciple the choir, instrumentalists, and vocalists…
Recruit and train volunteers to lead in all areas of the worship ministry
Coordinate with special music (chimes, soloists, etc.)
Supervise and lead any instrumentalists (staff, paid, and volunteer)
Help plan and lead worship for funeral services
Oversee the budget and expenses within their oversight
Pray regularly for the worship, and for our congregation
Attend all staff/planning meetings and lead team/committee meetings
Oversee and schedule weekly practices/rehearsals
Work closely with the AV team in communication and training
Other duties as assigned by the pastor
*Have set office hours each week
*Assist in all areas of worship within the church
*Oversee and lead ministries in accordance with your giftedness and the pastor’s leadership
