Southern Baptist Church – Rural community

We are a small, long established Southern Baptist church prayerfully seeking a bi-vocational pastor to lead, shepherd, and grow with our congregation. 

About our church

Founded in 1904, our church has been a steady presence in our rural community for over a century. Our current building was constructed in 1924, with updates to the sanctuary completed in 2017.

• Average Sunday attendance: 35-50
• Wednesday night youth and children: 35-50
• Congregation: Primarily older adults (late 60s-80s)
• Financial status: stable, debt-free, with a recently acquired church van
• Facilities: Parsonage included

We are a traditional-leaning church, but open to various service styles. Our people are kind, loving, and supportive, with a sincere desire to see the church remain active and impactful.

• Strong attendance among youth and children on Wednesday nights

• Willingness among members to serve as they are able
• A church with deep roots and a heart for its community

Our Realities

• Most of our active membership is older, and many are limited by health or age
• Leadership and ministry responsibilities are more centralized in the pastor than in larger churches
• Growth has been steady but limited in recent years
• Worship leadership support is present but not always consistent

We want to be honest: this is a church that needs a shepherd willing to be hands-on and present across multiple areas of ministry. 

Responsibilities

The pastor will be expected to:

• Preach and teach biblically sound sermons ( Sunday mornings and as needed)
• Provide pastoral care (visitation, counseling, encouragement)
• Lead or assist with Sunday School across various age groups when needed
• Teach or oversee Wednesday night youth and children’s ministries
• Lead or coordinate music during worship (with organist when available; otherwise using provided resources)
• Provide general leadership and vision for the church
• Handle routine administrative duties in coordination with the church secretary and financial personnel

Qualifications

• Called to pastoral ministry with a heart for small church leadership
• In agreement with Southern Baptist doctrine
• Able to relate to both older adults and younger families/children
• Willing to serve in a multi-role, hands-on ministry environment
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Experience preferred, but not required

Compensation

• Salary based on experience and church budget
• Parsonage provided
• Church covers standard ministry-related expense
