About Us:
Forest Heights Baptist Church is a diverse congregation located in the heart of Oxon Hill, in Prince George’s County, Maryland. We are conveniently located right off the interstate I-95/I-495, just minutes from the Nation’s Capital; Alexandria, Virginia; and National Harbor, Maryland. This diverse area is accessible to public transportation and provides a great harvest ground for witnessing and winning souls in accordance with Matthew 9:37-38.

We are seeking a passionate, visionary, and dedicated full-time Pastor to lead our small, but growing congregation as the shepherd and overseer of the membership and ministry operations of the Church. Our church is known for its welcoming atmosphere and a strong sense of fellowship, and we are looking for a leader who will inspire, challenge, and guide us in our journey of faith.

Pastor Job Description and General Qualifications

The Pastor is responsible to the church to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach Biblical revelation, to engage in Pastoral care. To provide leadership in all areas of church life. The Pastor shall meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. The Pastor should preach and teach in accordance with the Southern Baptist Faith and Message 2000 doctrinal statement.

Our Beliefs:

Forest Heights Baptist Church believes that we are all sinners in need of a Savior (Romans 3:23). We recognize that we cannot save ourselves through works, but that we are saved by God’s grace through faith (Ephesians 2:4-10). We believe that God’s salvation is eternal and is offered freely to all people (John 3:16-18; Joshua 24:15; Romans 1:16). We believe that our role as Christians in the Great Commission is to partake in outreach activities that spread the principles of the Gospel to others. We believe in discipleship practices that facilitate spiritual growth, in accordance with Matthew 28:19- 20.

What we’re looking for in our next pastor:

• An active, practicing, mature Christian faith
• Holds a college degree in applicable field
• At least two years relevant ministry experience
• Confirmed ongoing professional development
• Self-motivated and independent work ethic
• Proven ability to establish, build, and nurture relationships
• A desire to reach young families

Communication:

• Engage, equip, and empower the people of the church through example, preaching, and teaching God’s Word and spiritual counseling
• Deliver challenging and stimulating sermons based on sound Biblical doctrine
• Encourage the congregation in personal evangelism and witnessing
• Disciple the congregation through Bible study

Administration:

• Provide administrative leadership for church staff
• Provide guidance and oversight to various committees: Pastor is ex officio member of all church committees
• Maintain office hours available to the congregation and community
• Continue efforts in support of Southern Baptist Convention

Leadership:

• Provide vision and leadership for core functions of the church including evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, and worship
• Lead congregation in planning, conducting, and evaluating all the church’s ministries
• Oversee Deacons to accomplish their responsibilities as leaders and caregivers
• Lead and observe the ordinances of the church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
• Delegate pastoral care duties amongst the staff and Deacons as appropriate

Pastoral Care:

• Reach out to prospective members and inactive members of the church
• Be present for the congregation in times of celebration, grief, or spiritual needs
• Guide and comfort people through issues of anxiety, doubt, and confusion
• Extend care to individuals and families who are homebound, hospitalized, or in crisis
• Involve couples in pre-marriage counseling and perform wedding ceremonies and funerals as a shared responsibility of the pastoral staff

Compensation:

The starting total monetary compensation for this position is: $45,000.00
