Overview

Foundation Church Fredericksburg is seeking a senior pastor to lead and grow the church into

the next stage of its life. After ten years, the founding pastor has decided to step away from the

role in order to empower another leader. We are hoping to speak with interested and qualified

men who may be led to take up this task.

About the Church

Foundation Church was planted in downtown Fredericksburg, VA 10 years ago and is currently

a church of about 25 members and 50 weekly attendance (including kids).

We are a Baptist church, with a strong reformed identity, a high view of church membership, and

a love of preaching and reading.

Our age demographic skews young and we have a lot of kids of various ages (sometimes near

a 1:1 ratio!). Many children remain and participate in the service, but we also provide a class

during the sermon for ages 6 and under.

About the Candidate

Our next pastor should be able to affirm our statement of faith, which means broad agreement

about things like: Firm inerrancy, reformed soteriology, credobaptism. While we are not a

confessionally Reformed Baptist church, our members and our teaching trend in that direction.

He should also share some key “non-essential” values such as: Preference for expositional

preaching, thick church membership, and plurality of elders. There is currently one other

lay-elder in leadership along with the senior pastor.

Beyond theology, we are looking for a candidate with a building mindset. Though Foundation is

growing, this growth is slow and occasionally stalls. We have not been able to consistently

maintain a gathering size greater than 50 people. With our current energy and momentum, we

are ready for the next stage. So, the right man will have drive and energy, excited to start new

things and execute them well, and will come in with opportunities for our faithful members to get

to work.

The candidate should be exemplary in evangelism and outreach. Though there are plenty of

older Mainline churches and a few newer congregations, Fredericksburg is mostly either

negative or indifferent toward Christianity, so the work of evangelism and outreach is crucial.

The candidate should be comfortable with large families, multi-lingual households, and

multi-generational households. Fredericksburg has substantial Latin and middle-easternimmigrant communities that are in urgent need of Biblical churches. Foundation itself has a

large minority of Hispanic members and also has many large families.

We recommend that he be willing to live in or close to town, as Fredericksburg has a strong

local character.

We also recommend that he bring partial salary funding or be willing to act within an

approximately 2-year runway, as our previous pastor was bi-vocational.
