BASIC OBJECTIVE
To provide pastoral leadership to the worship and discipleship ministries of Henderson’s First Baptist Church, developing generations of God-glorifying disciples who make disciples.

STAFF RELATIONSHIPS
The Pastor of Worship & Discipleship reports to the Executive Pastor and works directly with (and is ultimately responsible to) the Senior Pastor.

GENERAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attend weekly staff meetings
2. Participate in hospital visitation rotation
3. Weekly attendance at and participation in all church functions
4. Team spirit in working with and leading other staff members to carry out HFBC’s mission statement
5. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Worship Role:
• Lead the congregation, choirs, and worship teams to use their voices and instruments to worship God consistently and effectively.

• Fulfill the role of lead worshiper in all regularly scheduled worship services and develop others to lead in this role as well.

• Provide vision for all areas of worship and music ministry by teaching and reviewing the biblical philosophy of worship.

• Recruit, train, and organize all musicians and assist the Media Director in recruiting and training Tech Ministry Team volunteers. Lead and/or oversee all music and worship teams to develop additional groups and members.

• Utilize a team approach in developing volunteers who can use their gifts in writing and planning gospel-saturated worship services.

• Work with preacher to plan and communicate worship services and schedules well in advance, implementing a system of follow through for benchmarks at various intervals.

• Provide pastoral care to those in the music and worship ministry, leading them to connect to total church life through discipleship, fellowship, and ministry.

• Grow by observing, reading about, studying, and conversing with other successful worship leaders. Build contacts and relationships with local musicians for both evangelistic and recruitment purposes.

• Work with Media Director to discuss, plan, and execute services, events/concerts, communications, and technical requirements.

• Plan and administrate the church music budget with guidance from the Executive Pastor.

Discipleship Role:
• Promote spiritual growth and learning at HFBC through Sunday School, various Bible study groups, and D-groups.

• Provide leadership and administrative oversight of Small Group education (Sunday School Classes, D-Groups, and Bible Studies) through facilitating activities that strengthen those groups.

• Recruit, develop, and evaluate leaders/teachers for various Small Groups.

• Develop, implement, and evaluate teaching curriculum as needed for all ministry areas. Provide consultation on curriculum options for the Pastor of Emerging Generations and other ministry directors.

• Oversee and/or lead in the adult discipleship programming for Wednesday nights.

• Assist the Pastor of Emerging Generations with the development and implementation of trainings and events that will assist HFBC families in generational discipleship.

Sound biblical theology whose understanding of the gospel shapes and guides worship decisions and selection of music.

Missional spirit that desires to make God’s glory known.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPECTATIONS

Education: BA, MA, or MDiv (MDiv is preferred) with theological training and experience in biblical worship.

Minimum three years of significant vocational worship leadership experience. Experience in a wide variety of worship style environments is especially helpful.

Significant skill and gifting in leading congregational worship. Proficiency in at least one primary instrument with the ability to play with others is ideal.

An understanding of the rudiments of music and musical theory, including how different instrumentalists work together effectively is required. Some preference will be given to candidates who have skills in playing various instruments.

Desire and ability to develop a cohesive congregational catalog of songs, readings, and prayers that will facilitate distinctive worship.

Technical skills (or the ability to learn how) to utilize a wide variety of equipment including computers, sound systems, video projection equipment and software, digital audio recording, etc. Familiarity with Planning Center is preferred.

Commitment to continued growth in understanding how to lead worship in a changing culture.

Ability to teach in various sized group settings.

Excellent references that can testify not only to skills and leadership ability but also to biblical character and love for the Word.
