Children’s Minister Job Description
(Birth to 6th grade)

Sunday School
1. Oversee Nursery/Preschool, Children, and Preteen Sunday School classes (birth to 6 th
grade).
2. Select and recommend Sunday School curricula to Sunday School teachers. 
3. Be available to Sunday School teachers during that hour to provide resources and help as needed.
a. Make sure classes are fully staffed (two teachers per room)
b. Locate supplies and other resources
4. Train Sunday School teachers on how to use curriculum
Nursery/Preschool/Children’s Church
1. Plan and teach Children’s Church lesson during the sermon portion of the worship
service.
2. Oversee and help prepare lessons for nursery/preschool worship hour.
Sunday Nights
1. Plan and oversee Nursery/Preschool and children’s activities.
2. Teach children’s Sunday evening class.
Other Responsibilities
1. Complete all administrative duties relating to the children’s ministry.
2. Recruit, schedule, train, and pray for children’s ministry teachers and volunteers.
3. Create and effectively manage the children’s ministry budget.
4. Order and maintain supplies in the Supply Room for Sunday School, Children’s Church
and Sunday evening activities for all age groups.
5. Communicate consistently and effectively with parents/guardians of the children involved
as well as the parents/guardians of visitors about ongoing activities.
6. Attend regular staff meetings and church council meetings.
7. Prepare a report for business meeting regarding nursery/preschool/children’s activities.

8. Be a volunteer for Vacation Bible School, Easter, and other children’s events at Hillcrest BC.
9. Perform other duties as agreed with the Pastor.
