Pastor Full Time

Founded in 1891, the quaint and historically significant town of Irvington, Virginia is the home for Irvington Baptist Church which now contemplates the selection of a new full-time Pastor, to follow the current pastor’s 38 year success and soon retirement.

The church setting is rich in colonial history, diverse culture, and sustained family values.  While retirees from Washington, DC and Richmond, VA are primarily attracted by this area’s somewhat slower pace, access to coastal water activities and plentiful agrarian resources, there is much more here to learn and enjoy. 

Irvington Baptist Church’s congregation is multi-generational, engaged and very active.  Attendance of worship services, bible studies, celebratory occasions and robust youth activities are quite the norm. 

This position as Lead Pastor has several requirements including:

– strong compassionate leadership, modeling an authentic Christian life,

– possession of strong Biblical knowledge and true joy for the Lord,

– license, and ordination as a Baptist Pastor,

– Master of Divinity degree (an accredited seminary/divinity school) & 10+ yrs. pastoral exp.,  

– effective interpersonal and communicative skills, with strategic thinking & planning capabilities,

– proficiency in computer and technology skills, and,

– possession of the Biblical qualifications as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. 

Among the Lead Pastor’s key responsibilities are:

– present well-organized, Bible-based sermons & lessons that edify, challenge, and encourage,

– honor the church legacy and strategically position the church to thrive and grow,

– provide spiritual, pastoral, outreach, administrative and servant leadership to the congregation,

– safeguard, encourage and nurture the growth of our youth and young adults; be a role model,

– work with youth leadership to develop inspirational programs and activities,

– work collaboratively with our leadership team of Deacons and committees

– cultivate genuine long-term connections with the congregation and the community.

Regarding compensation, this is a full-time position.  In addition to salary, compensation can include retirement (annuity), housing allowance, health insurance, automobile allowance, book/education allowance, travel/conference allowance, paid parental leave (totaling approximately $—).  The compensation package is open for negotiation.
