ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF STUDENTS

 

General Description: The Associate Pastor of Students is responsible for providing leadership and vision in planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive student ministry.

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.   Student Ministries. Plan, coordinate, and lead in all aspect of the church’s ministries and programs for students from 6th grade through 12th grade, including Sunday school, regular student worship services, summer camps, mission trips, and periodic recreational and fellowship activities.

 

2.   Recruitment of Volunteers. Enlist, recruit, train, and develop all volunteers needed for the student ministries, including, Sunday school teachers, adult mentors and leaders, and adult sponsors to student special events.

 

3.   Student Leadership Development. Develop and disciple a group of students in spiritual growth and leadership within the student ministry. 

 

4.   Parent Ministry. (a) Design, plan, and conduct periodic student parent meetings in order to engage and update families of student attending the church and (b) plan and coordinate, either in conjunction with the Minister of Preschool and Children’s Ministry or only for the Student Ministry, periodic training programs for parents of teenagers or soon-to-be-teenagers regarding issues relating to the teenage years and ways for parents to raise teenagers successfully.

 

5.   Compliance with Child Abuse Policy. Ensure all student leaders and volunteers are in compliance with the church’s Policy for the Prevention of Child Abuse or Neglect.

 

6.   Budgeting. Prepare, monitor, and administer annual budgets for the student ministry.

 

7.   Pastoral Functions. Preach on Sundays as requested by the Senior Pastor. Assist with baptisms, funerals, visitations, spiritual counseling, matters of church discipline, and other similar pastoral functions for the church as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

 

8.   Lakeland Christian Academy. Work with LCA Administration to promote unity between LCA and LBC, to provide input on shared-space between LCA and LBC, to speak and serve in LCA student events, to minister to LCA students and their parents, and to connect unchurched LCA students and parents with LBC.

 

9.   Other Duties. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

 

 

Spiritual and Professional Qualifications:

 

1.      Salvation, Spiritual Growth, and Christian Character. Possesses a close relationship with Jesus Christ, pursues Christlike holiness and maturity, and demonstrates a passion for Christ and His Kingdom through personal spiritual disciplines, service, accountability, and missional living.

 

2.      Biblical Fidelity. Demonstrates a faithfulness to Scripture and sound doctrine and is in full agreement with the BFM 2000.

 

3.      Pastoral Calling. Meets the requirements of a pastor/elder/overseer as defined in Scripture and has a calling and desire to serve the church in a pastoral role (1 Tim 3:1-7; Tit 1:5-9).

 

4.      Ability to Lead, Teach, Evangelize, and Disciple. Has the ability to lead and teach church members in the areas of discipleship and becoming disciple makers. Demonstrates a passion for evangelism, regularly engages others in gospel conversations, and is able to encourage and train others to live missional lives.

 

5.      Practical Vision. Is able to establish a vision for the administrative and discipleship ministries of the church that is consistent with the overall vision and mission of the church and is able to implement that vision to move the church forward toward accomplishing the vision.

 

6.      People Skills. Has good people skills and the ability to work with staff as a part of the team and to connect with the members of the church.

 

7.      Wisdom in Student Relationships. Has wisdom with respect to developing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships with students while avoiding inappropriate relationships with any students in the student ministry.

 

8.      Desire for Excellence. Is a person who strives for excellence and creativity in the ministry of church administration and in all aspects of his life and career.

 

9.      Education/Experience. Has or is currently working toward a seminary degree and has training or experience in student ministry.
