General Description: The Pastoral Ministry Assistant & Young Adult Minister is responsible for (1) assisting and supporting the Senior Pastor in the performance of his administrative and ministerial responsibilities for the church and (2) providing leadership and vision in planning, conducting, promoting, and evaluating a comprehensive young adult discipleship ministry for the church. This position is a great opportunity for someone who senses a call to be a senior/associate pastor and desires mentorship. In this role, the Pastoral Ministry Assistant & Young Adult Minister will gain experience in various aspects of pastoral ministry.

Pastoral Ministry Assistant—Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Gatekeeper Responsibilities. Serve as gatekeeper to the Senior Pastor, while ensuring people are helped and served in a friendly and Christ-centered manner.

2.      Correspondence Responsibilities. Manage all forms of correspondence for the Senior Pastor, including voicemail, e-mail, and regular mail.

3.      Calendar Responsibilities. Manage the Senior Pastor’s calendar, functioning as the primary contact person for meetings and other schedule commitments.

4.      Travel Arrangement Responsibilities. Make travel arrangements and coordinate speaking and ministry engagement logistics for the Senior Pastor.

5.      Meeting Responsibilities. Assist the Senior Pastor with meeting preparation through the production of documents, handouts, reports, ordered meals, reminders, etc., as requested by the Senior Pastor.

6.      Deacon Ministry Responsibilities. Serve as secretary to the Deacon Ministry by sending meeting notices to the Deacons, preparing agendas and information to be provided to the Deacons, recording and maintaining the minutes of all Deacon Ministry meetings.

7.      Budget and Financial Responsibilities. Prepare and submit all applicable paperwork to the Financial Administration office for the Senior Pastor, including purchase order forms, automobile mileage requests, credit card expenditure summaries, etc.

8.      Church Records Responsibilities. Maintain church database system for church membership. Prepare all annual reports to the Southern Baptist Convention and local and state conventions.

9.      Worship Preparation Responsibilities. Prepare the bulletin and announcement video for church worship services each week.

10.  Benevolence Assistance Responsibilities. Manage benevolence ministry to individuals who need financial assistance

Young Adult Minister—Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Young Adult Discipleship Ministry. Plan, coordinate, and lead in all aspects of the church’s young adult discipleship ministries, programs, and activities.

2.      Teaching and Ministering. Teach the young adult Sunday school class, organize activities, and minister to needs.

3.      Evangelistic Outreach. Develop and implement a strategy to reach college and young adults and their parents for salvation, discipleship, and assimilation.       

4.      Churchwide Events. Participate in all church-wide programs, activities, and events, encouraging those in your circle of influence to join you.

5.      Recruitment of Volunteers. Enlist, recruit, train, and develop all volunteers needed for the young adult discipleship ministries.

6.      Curriculum. Work with the Senior Pastor and Discipleship Pastor in the selection and procurement of appropriate educational curriculum materials for the spiritual development and training of church members and leaders.

7.      Equipment and Resources. Provide resources, supplies, and equipment to assist in the educational goals of each class.

8.      Budgeting. Monitor and administer annual budget for the young adult discipleship ministries.

9.      Other Duties. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

 

Spiritual and Professional Qualifications:

1.      Spiritual Growth and Missional Commitment. Maintains a close and clean walk with Jesus Christ and strives to grow in Christlikeness. Is loyal to the vision and staff of Lakeland Baptist Church and always protects the unity of the church. Invests in and invites the lost to know Jesus and come to Lakeland Baptist Church.

2.      Biblical Fidelity. Demonstrates a faithfulness to Scripture and sound doctrine and is in full agreement with the BFM 2000.

3.      Education. Has a college degree and is actively working towards a seminary degree.

4.      Desire for Excellence. Is a person who strives for excellence and creativity in the ministry of church administration and in all aspects of his life and ministry.

5.      Experience. Is able to handle a wide range of administrative, clerical, and executive support-related tasks. Demonstrates strong working knowledge of computers and proficiency in software programs.

4.   Skills. Possesses good people skills, strong writing and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability, and attention to detail.
