Director of Worship Full Time

On Sundays, we worship! Our Director of Worship leads not only the band to play and sing, they lead the congregation to worship Jesus. We believe that our worship is a response to what we know and learn about God. We know that not everyone arrives on Sunday morning ready to worship so we do most of our singing at the end of the service in response to the gospel message we have heard. This is a time for the whole church to come together so our Kids Ministry leaders bring our children into the service for worship and no one sings louder than the kids!

Our Director of Worship chooses songs for worship that are connected to the sermon that week. The goal is that these songs accurately reflect the beliefs of the church, praise Jesus, and let us preach the sermon back to ourselves as we sing the songs all week long.

Outside of Sunday, our Director of Worship works to create and foster a thriving culture of worship at Mission Valley throughout the week. Practically, this looks like preparation for Sunday and leading different sub-teams. These sub-teams are full of members and attenders of the church that are discipled and cared for by our Director of Worship, in addition to leading their service on the team.

The Role

The following is a draft of what we imagine the responsibilities of a Director of Worship may look like at Mission Valley. We are looking forward to tailoring the final job description to match the gifts and abilities of the candidate and the needs at Mission Valley.

Primary Focus

The Director of Worship is responsible for the Sunday morning services and works to foster a thriving worship culture in the church. The Director of Worship disciples five sub-team leaders: The band, online church team, tech team, scripture reading team, and host team.

• Role Responsibilities
  • Plan, Coordinate, Oversee, and Lead Weekly Worship Services
  • Select the worship setlist every weekend
  • Find new music to bring to the church
  • Communicate with the band throughout the week
  • Rehearse with the band weekly
  • Audition and add new team members
  • Schedule sub-team members
  • Lead worship each week
  • Prepare playlist for lobby and auditorium pre-service and post-service
  • Aid the pastor in adding creative elements to the weekly worship service
  • Lead mid-week services as needed
• Administration and Meetings
  • Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with the Pastor
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Attend weekly leadership team meetings for big-picture planning
• Pastoral Care Ministry Training
  • Under the direction of the Lead Pastor,  grow to meet the  qualifications and gain the experience necessary to become a pastor. Learn through the “see, say, do” process
  • Lead VIP meetings in a way that edifies the team
  • Offer marital counseling when applicable
  • Lead a community group and multiply the group
• Oversee Online Worship Service
  • Set up and run recording equipment to create high-quality online worship service recordings
  • Upload videos to online platforms
• Oversee Digital Media
  • Record promotional videos for use in person and online
  • Build out a digital media team
• Coordinate Music and Digital Presence for Special Events
  • Prepare worship and music for Vacation Bible School
  • Create playlists for all special events
