STATUS: FULL-TIME
PURPOSE
The Discipleship Pastor is responsible for equipping God’s people to do His work and empower members to be active in the service of the church community. This position will lead and oversee all key discipleship initiatives of the church. The Discipleship Pastor is accountable for all guest services and transitioning visitors to active members. The Discipleship Pastor will serve on the elder team at NUBC providing wisdom and insight in the area of disciple making.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
PASTORAL MINISTRY
- Preach and counsel as needed
- Attend ministry meetings such as staff, leadership, elders, and business.
- Work closely with church staff to build and maintain a strong team environment and complete the necessary work to fully serve and support the ministries of NUBC.
- Cooperate with Lead Pastor when tasked with additional duties.
DISCIPLESHIP
- Leadership and Vision: Direct and oversee all aspects of adult discipleship at NUBC. Vision-cast the purpose and goals of discipleship that align with the mission and statement of faith of NUBC to team leaders. Continually pray and process through long-term discipleship at NUBC.
- Program Development: Create, develop, organize, and evaluate current and future discipleship programs. This includes but is not limited to Sunday School, Life Groups, Men and Women’s ministries, Celebrate Recovery and Reboot.
- Teaching and Equipping: Teach, mentor, and equip individuals to become devoted disciples who actively disciple others using biblically grounded teachings and practical applications. This can be accomplished by modeling and implementing effective discipleship strategies and practices with leaders as well as creating and implanting discipleship processes for new believers.
- Volunteer Engagement: Recruit, train, and support volunteers to lead discipleship groups, ensuring they are equipped with resources and guidance to facilitate meaningful growth. This includes directing, planning, and implementing new leader meetings, training, and all events associated with discipleship. The desired candidate will be responsible for approving curriculum and resources for these groups. He should also possess competence in strategizing and implanting systems, polices, and procedures for developing leaders and discipleship groups.
- Collaboration: Work alongside next-gen, college, and senior adult ministries to facilitate and promote spiritual growth within the church.
- Evaluation and Improvement: Continually assess the effectiveness of discipleship programs, seeking feedback and making necessary adjustments for improvements.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS/CONNECTIONS
- Leadership and Vision: Direct and oversee the welcome, check-in, and hospitality teams. Vision-cast the purpose and goals of these teams. Direct and oversee the process of how visitors and members engage with our facilities and programs.
- Program Development: Create, develop, organize, and evaluate current and future processes of first impression and connections at NUBC. This includes but no limited to welcoming, check-in’s hospitality, Discover NU (intro class) and New Member Classes.
- Volunteer Engagement: Recruit, train, and support volunteers to lead first impression and connection teams.
- Assimilation: Pray, process, and evaluate the process by which people visit, join, participate, and serve at NUBC, implanting effective strategies to foster the growth of the church.
- First Impressions – Evaluate and improve the process of visiting NUBC, from the parking lot, to the door, to worship.
- Next Steps – Evaluate and improve the process of visitors interest in knowing more about NUBC through follow-up and connecting.
- Membership – Evaluate and improve the process of those interested in membership by in person meetings, providing introductory classes, and consistent follow up.
- Discipleship and Serving – Implement strategies which integrate members into the discipleship plan and discover a place to serve.
- Database: Create, develop, and implement strategies and systems to use our database (Planning Center) as a productive and effective method of connecting and following up.
- Collaboration: Work alongside other NUBC ministries to facilitate and promote effective methods of connecting members to other ministries.
- Evaluation and Improvement: Continually assess the effectiveness of connection programs, seeking feedback and making necessary adjustments for improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
PERSONAL
- Must have a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Must be at least 21 years old with excellent organizational, communication, planning, and creative skills
- Must be in full support of the doctrine and beliefs of NUBC
- Must be called to vocational ministry and be dedicated to leading people to Christ and the development of new believers
- Possess a social awareness that guides relationships and effective decision making
- Possess solid interpersonal skills, an understanding of group dynamics, and can resolve conflict gracefully and appropriately
- Must be a self-starter, creating tasks, goals, and systems that help accomplish the vision of the ministry and church
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Seminary training from an accredited theological institution is highly desirable.
- Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years of church leadership
- Strong administrative skills
- Experience working specifically in developing small group formations
- Experience in connections and hospitality
