Position Summary

Parkway Baptist Church is a family of disciples called to glorify God, grow in Christ, give to His mission, and go to the world with the gospel.The Communications & Technical Director will help fulfill this mission by providing internal and external communications. Internal communications provide staff and ministry leaders with the effective means and coordination of communication for the purposes of ministry. External communications are used to connect the church body and community to the mission of PBC. The C&TD accomplishes this through strategic communications planning based on ministry needs, producing communications output (graphics, print media, social media, etc.) and by equipping others with necessary tools and resources for communication purposes. The C&TD will also oversee all audio, visual, and lighting operations of PBC, with the primary responsibility being the technical needs of the Sunday morning Worship Service.

General Qualifications and Expectations

  • Be a member in good standing of Parkway Baptist Church.
  • Maintain a healthy life of prayer, Bible study, and discipleship with others.
  • Exemplify Godly convictions, character, and competencies in service, as laid out by 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
  • Appropriate PBC’s mission (Glorify, Grow, Give, Go) in weekly rhythms and in short-term and long-term goals.
  • Regularly meet with Associate & Worship Pastor for mutual encouragement, accountability, discipleship, and planning.
  • Attend all related ministry meetings, staff meetings, staff enrichments, staff retreats and planning meetings.
  • Perform other duties and contribute to other projects as needed.

Preferred/Required Proficiencies

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in related field preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities required
  • Experience in managing social media outlets required
  • Experience in development and/or maintenance of websites and web based software preferred
  • Basic graphic design experience required… Canva is good, Adobe Creative Suite is better
  • Basic skills in photography/videography preferred
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrable skills in live sound, video, and lighting required

Communications Specifics

  • Determine best practices for Internal Communications, evaluating the ways staff and ministry leaders communicate with each other.
  • Develop expertise in Internal Communication tools (PCO, CCB, Website, Forms, Communications Requests, Outlook Calendar, Outlook Email, etc.).
  • Provide support for staff and leaders as they use these various tools.
  • Answer questions from staff and leaders regarding our communication process.
  • Determine best practices for External Communications, evaluating the ways to best communicate with the members and broader community.
  • Develop and maintain external online platforms (website, social media). 
  • Oversee production of print and digital media, including graphic design.
  • Design, print, and distribute weekly Sunday bulletin.
  • Design, print, and distribute all print media (banners, posters, postcards, etc.)
  • Create or outsource graphics for sermon series.
  • Create or outsource graphics as needed for ministries and events.
  • Edit and upload sermons weekly.
  • Keep content on website up to date.
  • Troubleshoot website issues that arise.
  • Plan and execute content for social media platforms.

Technical Specifics

  • Train and oversee a team of volunteers in the areas of audio, visual and lighting as it pertains to Sunday services, special events, weddings and funerals.
  • Train staff and ministry leaders to be able to perform basic audio, visual and lighting tasks for special events, meetings and gatherings.
  • Keep all audio, visual, and lighting equipment up to date and in good working order.
  • Keep an inventory of all technical tools pertaining to PBC’s ministries and make equipment purchases as needed.
  • Help technical team members maintain PBC’s established standards of excellence.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of all PBC’s services and events.
  • Make sure the stage is set, line checked and ready (plug and play) for rehearsals, services and special events.
  • Provide spiritual leadership to technical team members by being an example of a servant leader.
  • Provide support/assist the Associate & Worship Pastor in all areas of tech.
  • Provide tech support and assistance to other ministries in the areas of audio, visual and lighting (events, classes, trips, VBS, web, podcasts, videos, etc.).
  • Understand the role of technology in corporate worship as determined by the Senior Pastor and Associate & Worship Pastor
  • Possess a knowledge of past and current trends in music and technical arts and how they should or should not be utilized in the worship service.
