DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF CHURCH MEMBERSHIP

Piney Grove Baptist Church is a southern Baptist church established in 1898 which is congregational ruled and pastor led. We are located in Pittsylvania County outside of Gretna, Virginia in a rural location. The attendance averages 50-60 each Sunday for worship service and 20-25 for Sunday School.

The congregation includes members who have been active their entire lives and newer members who have come in last 5 years. The ages vary with the oldest attendee being in her 90s and youngest being 18 months. There are approximately 5-6 families with teens and/or children. The church ministers to the community through a soup ministry, Operation Christmas Child, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter boxes for shut-ins or others who have need. We support both local, state, and international missions. Many have a true heart for prayer and community and congregational needs are brought before the members. Outreach happens in an organic manner through informal meetings on the road, at the local Walmart or other places.

The congregation is a blend of casual and more traditional members. On a typical Sunday a person will see some shirts and ties as well as jeans and sport shirts. A worship service will include hymns and choruses accompanied by piano and/or other instruments. The church has a tradition of having the pastor lead a children’s sermon during the service. The church wants to honor all generations through their services and ministries.

We believe that if we have a pastor who can lead, teach the Word, and disciple the people, the congregation will be equipped to serve, minister to one another and point people in our community to Christ. We are ready to be led and to serve in the next chapter of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
