Associate Pastor to Youth

Principal Function: The Associate Pastor serves as a right hand to the Senior Pastor –assisting him in shepherding the congregation. He is responsible for seeking and implementing God’s vision for the church’s missions and outreach programs. However, he will primarily serve as pastor to the students and young adults. He will work to provide a place where students feel they can belong, believe the good news, become lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ, and be His witnesses in whatever context they find themselves.

 

General Summary:

The Associate Pastor must meet the spiritual, personal and character qualifications as found in 1 Timothy

3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 (see below) and exhibit the fruit of the spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23 and

will hold to the doctrinal beliefs of the Southern Baptist Convention as described in the 2000 Baptist

Faith and Message.

            • Exhibits Domestic Dignity: Husband of one wife, above reproach, able to manage his home well

            • Exhibits Personal Integrity: blameless, self-controlled, disciplined, not arrogant, not

            greedy, upright, and holy

            • Exhibits Spiritual Maturity: Holds the Word as the ultimate authority, a spiritual shepherd

            to the flock, able to defend the faith

Spiritual Requirements:

            • Calling: Must demonstrate a clear calling to shepherd people as a pastor and to equip/disciple

            ministry team members serving in their ministries. A confident leader.

            • Character: Must demonstrate in both word and deed a spiritual maturity consistent with

            scriptural qualifications and exemplary to those who observe his life.

            • Competence: Must effectively execute ministry responsibilities consistent with the gifts of

            administration and leadership incumbent on the role and in support of the overall discipleship

            strategy of the church.

            • Communication: Must demonstrate effectiveness in relating to and communicating with all people

            including church members, vendors, ministry team leaders, employees and pastoral peers.

            • Culture: Must demonstrate understanding of and fit within the church leadership culture.

            • Family: Must demonstrate effective leadership of his family to include leading them to

            actively participate in and serve in areas of ministry life.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Discipleship

1.       Assist, as needed, in planning, coordinating, and implementing approved educational ministries, training

sessions, special events, seminars, and conferences.

2.       Approve curriculum, teacher assignments and requests for new classes.

3.       Help teach the Explore and New Member’s Class.

4.       Develop and deliver sermons for worship services whenever asked by the Senior Pastor.

5.       Plan and recruit for D-Groups

 

Outreach

1.       Plan, coordinate, and conduct church-wide outreach events in the community.

2.       Teach adult believers how to be effective witnesses for Christ.

3.       Personally witness to the lost on a regular basis.

4.       Plan, recruit and manage budget for national and international mission trips.

 

Inreach

1.       Assist the Senior Pastor in ministering to members who are sick, hospitalized, or in crisis. Provide counsel, comfort and encouragement to members who are suffering and to their family members, as appropriate.

2.       Assist the Senior Pastor in pastoral counseling–particularly in the area of premarital counseling.

3.       Conduct funerals and weddings when the Senior Pastor is not available. Assist the Senior Pastor with baptisms.

 

Leadership Development

1.       Discover, recruit, train and develop students to serve as Student Leaders.

2.       Oversee ministerial assistants, adult and student leadership teams.

3.       Recruit and Train mission leadership

4.       Mentor parents

 

Administration

1.       Develop and manage the Sunday school, discipleship, outreach, and evangelism ministry budgets.

2.       Act as the staff liaison to the scholarship, nominating, and missions committees.

 

Personal Growth

1.       Grow in your personal walk with the Lord. Faithfully practice the spiritual disciplines of Bible study, prayer, worship, stewardship, evangelism, fellowship, fasting, and service.

2.       Pursue opportunities for professional development.

 

Qualifications:

1.       A born-again believer in Jesus Christ.

2.       Demonstrates a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

3.       Adheres to the Poplar Grove Baptist Church Statement of Faith and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000

4.       Meets the requirements of Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-3.

5.       Has a minimum of 3 years experience in a thriving church.

6.       Seminary degree preferred (M. Div or M.A.C.E.).

 

Status:  Full-time, salaried

Supervises: Students and College

Reports To:  Senior Pastor
