Position:

Choir Director (Part Time)

Principal Function:

Responsible to select music and direct the choir ministry, lead congregational music, work in coordination with musicians and the praise team to help build the church’s music ministry.  The part-time choir director is responsible to the Pastor and the Associate Pastor in his absence.

Qualifications:

Must be passionate about evangelism.
Must be passionate about discipleship and invested in his/her own spiritual growth through personal Bible study, prayer, serving, etc.
Must align with the vision and mission of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and with our statement of faith (see the Baptist Faith and Message 2000).
Must be willing to partner with the senior pastor in prayer, vision, and evangelism.
Must be a positive team player, not just in worship ministry, but as a part of the larger staff and leadership team.
Must be willing to assist in additional areas not mentioned below, as needed by the senior pastor and church body.
Must be musically proficient (understands basic music theory, is able to read music, and has experience directing SATB choir music).
Must be able to lead choir and congregational singing in a variety of music styles (Music from the Baptist Hymnal, Southern Gospel, and traditional to more contemporary)
Musical education preferred but not required.  (Experience will be considered in lieu of education.)
Responsibilities:

1.      Direct the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive choir ministry.

2.      Coordinate the choir ministry with the calendar and emphases of the church.

3.      Work with the Praise Team Leader in determining music ministry goals, organization, leadership, facilities, finances and administration processes.

4.      Assist the Pastor in planning congregational services for the church; be responsible for the selection of choir music.

5.      Arrange and provide special music when requested for special events (weddings, funerals, etc.).

6.      Direct the adult choir and congregational singing or arrange for someone else to do so.

7.      Work in cooperation with the appropriate persons including the nominating ministry team in selecting, enlisting, and training accompanists and other musicians who serve in the church choir.

8.      Coordinate with the Praise Team Leader the schedule of music groups and individuals for the church.

9.      Give direction to the choir for outreach and enlistment.

10.    Supervise maintenance of and additions to the music library and equipment, order musical materials, supplies, instruments, and other music equipment for use in the choir ministry.

11.    Keep informed on current music methods, materials, promotion and administration, utilizing them where appropriate.

12.    Coordinate the training of vocalists in groups or as individuals.

13.    Prepare an annual choir budget to be recommended to the finance/personnel committee.

14.    Support activities and ministries of the church as much as possible.

15.    Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Availability:

Part-time evenings and weekends – Sunday morning & evening services, Wednesday evening services, choir rehearsals, and additional seasonal and special musical events.
