The Director of Missions (DOM) serves as a spiritual leader, advisor, and administrator for the Rio Grande Baptist Association (RGBA), fostering unity and collaboration among the 31 member churches and missions along the I-25 corridor from Santa Teresa to Elephant Butte. Working closely with the Regional Missionary, the DOM provides guidance to churches in transition, supports pastors, encourages fellowship, and advances the mission of spreading the Gospel in Southern New Mexico. This position balances pastoral care, organizational leadership, and active participation in associational life.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Support and Leadership:
Assist churches without pastors or those in crisis through consultation, preaching, training, and conflict mediation.
Promote harmony and fellowship among all member churches.
Lead and support monthly Pastors’ Prayer and Fellowship gatherings.
Administrative and Associational Duties:
Act as a liaison between RGBA and the Baptist Convention of New Mexico (BCNM) in cooperation with the Regional Missionary.
Regularly communicate with and encourage ministries supported by RGBA.
Plan agendas and moderate quarterly and annual RGBA meetings.
Maintain contact with pastors and visit member churches, attending worship services when possible.
Accountability:
Report to and collaborate with the Administrative Team, which serves as the DOM’s supervisory body.
Qualifications
Spiritual and Personal Characteristics:
Must be a committed Southern Baptist with a strong sense of calling to missions and ministry.
Demonstrates spiritual maturity, servant leadership, and a heart for pastoral care.
Committed to fostering unity, promoting fellowship, and encouraging collaboration among diverse congregations.
Professional Competencies:
Proven experience in church leadership, administration, and/or mission work.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to mediate and support churches in times of need.
Knowledge of Baptist doctrine, practices, and organizational structures.
Preferred Qualities:
A visionary leader with the ability to inspire others to actively participate in fulfilling the Great Commission.
A team player who works effectively with Regional Missionaries, pastors, and congregational leaders.
