Rockfish Valley Baptist Church

ActiveGeneral Information
RVBC is a small Bible-preaching church in beautiful central VA that is strong in fellowship but currently does not have an instrumentalist able to lead live music. At present, two congregants alternate months leading a sing-along style of worship with prerecorded tracks. We seek someone skilled in instrumental – most likely guitar or piano – and vocal music to lead us in live worship songs in order to add freshness and vitality to our corporate singing as we continue seeking to worship God in spirit and in truth. We strive to operate by a “best of both worlds” approach to hymns and contemporary/modern songs. Regarding newer songs, our doctrine and style most closely align with Keith & Kristyn Getty, Sovereign Grace, City Alight, and Shane & Shane.
Qualifications
· Must be a genuine believer regenerated by God’s grace.
· Should affirm and agree with RVBC’s statement of faith and doctrinal positions (available on our website).
· Participation in a Worship Ministries or Music degree program is preferred. RVBC is happy to provide a low-stakes opportunity for improving one’s skillset and/or experience in leading congregational singing.
· Able to work with others, including:
o the Senior Pastor—receiving direction and constructive feedback.
o congregational worship leaders—receiving song suggestions and able to conduct practices.
o congregants—engaging attendees on Sundays and receiving feedback in a humble manner.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Receive information from the Senior Pastor related to each Sunday’s service and message and construct a set list to support and enhance that message and theme.
· Communicate with current congregational song leaders to learn what songs are currently in the church library and how to go about adding new songs to RVBC’s repertoire.
· Lead musical worship each Sunday. It is expected that this would vary between 3 different formats…
o Co-leading a set with current song leaders while providing live instrumentation.
o Supporting a congregational song leader as an instrumentalist while he or she leads.
o Solo leading (instrumental and vocal).
· Strategically teach the congregation new songs at an appropriate pace.
Accountability & Reporting
The Music Intern is accountable to the Senior Pastor, through him to the elders of the church, and through the elders to the membership at large.
Compensation
The position will initially run for 13 weeks (3 months) at a pay of $20/hr for 8 hrs/wk. RVBC and the intern may mutually evaluate whether to continue the position at that time or not.
