STUDENT PASTOR

JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Student Pastor
Supervisor: Lead Pastor
Status: Full-time, Exempt

Purpose: Making disciples through Student Ministry.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Empowers Students
● Creates discipleship-making strategies and events to help students grow in Christ
● Oversees Midweek student gathering to address discipleship needs not covered in other areas
● Creates Gospel Groups that encourage growth in Christ and with others
● Manages a ministry budget to support the student ministry
● Provides counsel to students and parents
● Develops a leadership pipeline to address multifaceted needs
● Encourages students to serve in the local church and church-wide events
● Provides milestone opportunities for students to grow missionally
● Coordinates weekly and annual ministry activities with the Family Ministry Team
● Provides opportunities for leadership development within maturing students
● Ensures rooms are safe and prepared in case of emergencies
● Provides community, encouragement, and resources for leaders to minister effectively to students

Equips Parents
● Help parents fulfill their biblical role as primary evangelists and disciple-makers
● Creates resources to help parents understand the current teen culture
● Provides resources for parents to be the primary spiritual influencers of their students and
communicates with student families through regular updates
● Provide training opportunities for parents and coordinate ways for them to share ideas
● Provides a vision for the student ministry through relationships with parents, students, and student
leaders
● Communicates insights from teaching in student environments
● Celebrate spiritual milestones with students and their families by coordinating camps and mission
trip opportunities
● Follows up with first-time guests and helps them connect to Rocky Creek

Engages Needs
● Serves as a shepherd to the entire church alongside other pastors
● Oversees the spiritual health of the church as a whole
● Willing to preach, teach, and lead in areas outside of student ministry when needed
● Become a specialist in issues related to families of teens

● When unable to address needs, has a system ready of phone-a-friend, emergency hotline of
experts, and best resources to help
● Gives intentional oversight to students in less-than-ideal family situations
● Connects with the RC counseling ministry when needs arise for students and their families
● Helps notice and address other needs in the church in and out of their area
● Mentors and disciples interns in both ministry and administrative roles regarding student ministry

Job Skills and Requirements

Spiritual Requirements:
● Be Christian by biblical definition, with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as expressed by personal
testimony and continued Christian conduct.
● Live a life reflective of the qualifications for leadership as defined by scripture (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1):
     ○ Devoted to his wife (if married) (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim 3:2)
     ○ Manages his household (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim 3:4-5)
     ○ Faithful Steward (Titus 1:7)
     ○ Humble (Titus 1:7)
     ○ Gentle, not quick-tempered (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim 3:3)
     ○ Sober (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim 3:3)
     ○ Peaceful, not given to violence (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim 3:3)
     ○ Financial integrity — not greedy for gain (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim 3:3; 1 Peter 5:3)
     ○ Hospitable (Titus 1:8; 1 Tim 3:2)
     ○ Love what is good (Titus 1:8)
     ○ Self-controlled (Titus 1:8; 1 Tim 3:2)
     ○ Live upright and holy (Titus 1:8)
     ○ Able to teach (Titus 1:9; 1 Tim 3:2)
     ○ Spiritually mature commensurate with the call (1 Tim 3:6)
     ○ Respectable and an example to the congregation (1 Tim 3:7; 1 Peter 5:3)
● Agree without reservation with the doctrinal statement of the church
● Exhibit a genuine concern for the salvation of souls and the spiritual welfare of all served by the
church
● Feels a call towards leadership in student ministry

Vocational Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree required; Seminary or Master’s Degree preferred.
● 2-3 years of experience working or volunteering in Student Ministry settings.
● Teach God’s Word in an accurate, compelling, and age-specific manner.
● Possess strong leadership characteristics and use skills to train, equip, and inspire.
● Ability to take direction and receive feedback.
● Ability to initiate and complete tasks without prompting.
● Relationally strong and recognizes the importance of people over programs.
● High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
