JOB DESCRIPTION AND PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The Assistant/Associate Pastor works directly under the direction of the Senior Pastor to engage in church-related pastoral ministries, provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life, and serve as a first-line administrator for the paid staff. He works closely with the Senior Pastor to execute the ministerial objectives of the church. The applicant needs to be passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ, evangelism, and shepherding the body of Christ.
The Assistant/Associate Pastor will also be responsible to the Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee for providing Christian developmental leadership to the entire church congregation. This involves assisting church program leaders in planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive ministry of Christian education in support of the church’s mission and objectives. Should the Senior Pastor be unavailable due to vacancy, medical disability, or natural disaster, the Assistant/Associate Pastor is authorized to assume the Senior Pastor’s duties until appropriate action of the church body.
QUALIFICATIONS:
He must be a born-again Christian and, upon acceptance, become a member of Sabino Road Baptist Church. He must have a divine call to the ministry and wholeheartedly support the doctrinal platform of Sabino Road Baptist Church as stated in the Church Constitution and By-Laws. He must be a person who has experience in the area of Christian education. It is highly preferred for him to have attained a degree from an accredited seminary.
DUTIES:
· Serves as one of the leaders, along with the Senior Pastor, of the church outreach ministry for conversion of the lost, including visitation and personal counseling, for contact and visitation to hospitals and care facilities.
· Provides leadership in the day-to-day administrative needs of the church.
· Serves as the administrator responsible for all staff.
· Develop, along with the Senior Pastor, a vision for church growth and plans for the educational goals of the congregation.
· Lead the church in planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive program of Christian education.
· Engage with available Christian education resource providers
· Serve as the educational resource advisor and guide the leaders of the church program service organizations and committees of the church as requested.
· Lead and maintain a comprehensive program of visitation, including maintenance of a system of prospect visitation records.
· Design and implement a security screening system for volunteers and paid workers in all programs that involve minors, to ensure the safety and security of those minors.
· Assist the pastor in planning, conducting, and evaluating congregational services.
· Assumes all other responsibilities assigned by the Senior Pastor.
· Work with the church nominating committee to select, enlist, and train qualified leaders.
· Work with Church Staff and Church Council in planning a calendar of activities.
· Attends all meetings of the Deacons and provides leadership as requested.
· Cooperates in regular staff planning meetings as required.
· Cooperates with associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern.
· Cooperates with the Personnel Committee and with special church committees in filling staff vacancies.
· Assists in the editing of all church publications and online resources.
· Keeps informed on methods, materials, principles, procedures, promotion, and administration as related to the education program.
· May assist or lead in the observance of church ordinances.
· May assist at weddings, funerals, and other church ceremonies as requested.
· May act as moderator of church business meetings at the request of the Senior Pastor.
· May serve as ex officio of all standing church committees and is available upon request for these committees.
