The St. Louis Metro Baptist Association is a missions organization. St. Louis Metro is a network of approximately 110 churches who are in basic agreement with the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message. St. Louis Metro is led by the Executive Director and staff who work to connect churches to see leaders developed and deployed because lostness is the greatest problem in our region.
Job summary
The role of the Executive Director is highly relational. Great mission effectiveness stems from strong partnerships and these partnerships depend upon authentic relationships. This role involves providing leadership to the staff, equipping pastors and leaders, fostering collaboration, promoting mission initiatives, and helping churches to work together to make Christ known to plant new churches, strengthen existing churches and replant struggling churches.
Job responsibilities
• Lead and build a culture of prayer among leaders and a mission strategy
based in prayer
• Lead and encourage a staff or primarily part-time employees to work with
and for member churches to do mission together
• Build new relationships with other Great Commission churches and
community leaders outside of the association in order to better serve and
reach St. Louis for Christ
• Lead and equip the staff to provide nine well prepared, well done and
create mission minded events a year. This includes: four Mission Metro
Quarterlies, four Executive Board days that include church strengthening
seminars and one annual celebration dinner.
• Work with the three teams from the Executive Board: Church Planting,
Church Health and the school board for Center Cross Academy
• Work with a five person Executive Committee to create an annual
budget. These persons are selected and voted upon from the larger
Executive Board of the association.
Qualifications
Required
• Must possess the spirit and attitude of a missionary for an urban and
suburban context
• Must have the experience and ability of working with a team
• Must have an experienced working knowledge of how partnership works
among the entities of the Southern Baptist Convention on a state and
national level
• Must have the ability to build strategic relationships connecting cross-
culturally and across demographic lines in an area of nearly 3 million
people, nearly ½ million African Americans and over 110 different people
groups
• A minimum of ten years of full-time ministry experience
Preferred But Not Required
• Experience in working outside of a homogeneous environment
• Experience in working with racial diversity
• Experience in working with doctrinal and methodological diversity under
the umbrella of the Baptist Faith and Message
• Experience in the lead pastor role
• Direct and first hand church planting experience
• Experience in missions outside of your local context including
internationally
• A Master of Divinity or above from a reputable theological seminary
Working conditions and logistics
• The association currently has office space at the SEND Relief Ministry
Center in Ferguson and at the association’s school, Center Cross
Academy, which is in the heart of the city. A majority of the Executive
Director work will be remote and on the field.
• This a full-time salaried position with a package for health insurance,
retirement and paid time off
• Staff meetings are on Monday mornings Schedule: Define whether the
role is full-time, part-time, salaried, or contract-based.
• Currently there other full-time employee on the ministry team with seven
other part-time team members including the SEND City missionary who is
full-time with the North American Mission Board
