Worship Minister Part Time

Sinking Creek is the oldest church of any faith in the state of Tennessee. Founded in 1772, the original log church still exists and has recently been fully restored. We are a congregation of around 300-350. Located in the east Tennessee mountains, we are about an hour drive from Asheville, Knoxville, about 25 from Bristol Raceway, and a 15-20 minute drive from three lakes. 

We prefer a blended style of worship and seek someone who is comfortable leading in a congregational setting as well as a youth/college setting.

Job Description:

The Worship Minister is expected to have a God-focused heart, centered in obedience to the Holy Spirit, striving to bring the congregation into a state of meaningful worship. Having routinely scheduled choir practices, planning special musical services, and screening potential soloists are the duties of the Worship Minister. The Worship Minister will be under the supervision of the Pastor of Sinking Creek Baptist Church and will be expected to adhere to the requirements outlined within this document. 

Qualifications:

Have God-given gifts and calling to lead music with Christ-centered worship being the driver in this passion.

Ability to communicate well and in a friendly manner with the church leadership, church choir, and members of the congregation.

Minister to the physical and spiritual needs of choir members.

A heart for people and the desire to share with others their passion for music.

The ability to teach the fundamentals of music theory. 

Personal integrity and self-motivation in the fulfillment of ministry.

Attendance of quarterly staff meetings is required.

A member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church and grounded in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

Specific Duties:

Attendance of all weekly services is required.  (Sunday Morning, Sunday Evening, and Wednesday for the purpose of leading worship)

Spend time with the Pastor to align with his heart and vision for the church. 

Coordinate the choir, soloists, and musical specials during the worship service. 

Coordinate with the pastor to prepare the order of the service and music.

Lead congregational singing for Sunday services.  

Coordinate with the Youth Minister and Children’s Director to lead worship in the Upper Room (first 30 minutes) with the youth and during Adventure Club (2nd 30 minutes) on Wednesday nights.  

Coordinate with the media team regarding all audio and visual needs.

Coordinate with the children and youth music ministries to lead or help with music-based services they are planning.  

Oversee the planning and direction of the annual Christmas and Resurrection Sunday cantatas. (In addition, any special events that incorporate music, such as but not limited to revivals, VBS, dramas, community outreach, etc.)

Spend at least 15 hours weekly performing said duties. (Time spent in the Sunday and Wednesday services count towards these totals).

Attend quarterly staff meetings.
