Job Description

The Children’s Minister will envision and implement a plan for spiritual growth and outreach to children from birth through the 6th grade. The minister will lead an adult volunteer team and will ensure the success of all weekly programs and special events for children such as musicals, conferences, trips, and various activities.

As Communication Director, the minister will manage all aspects of communication with the church body including engagement through churchwide emails, social media posts, and printed materials.

Discipleship Strategy

Effectively teach theological truths in an engaging way.
Create programs and events that lead children through the church’s overall discipleship process. 
Communicate clearly and frequently with students and parents to encourage at-home discipleship.
Provide opportunities for personal growth in knowledge, love, and devotion to the Lord.
Minister to children and family in the case of an emergency or crisis.

Ministry Volunteers

Recruit, train and empower adult volunteers for leadership in children’s ministry and communication teams.
Implement a children’s leadership team and meet with them consistently for ideas, input, and feedback.
Ensure the safety of all children’s ministry activities through means such as performing background checks on all workers involved in any aspect of children’s ministry.

Communication

Manage overall communication for the church.  This includes managing the website, social media, emails, and bulletins.
Create necessary graphics for the children’s ministry, Springhill’s social media platforms, and various church-wide communication needs.
Meet with the staff on a regular basis to ensure smooth communication with the church across all ministries.

General

Oversee all ministry to Children (Birth – 6th Grade) and their parents.
Develop an annual budget for children’s ministry and manage the spending of that budget throughout the year.
Keep regular office hours. A minimum of 40 overall hours should be worked each week.
Participate as a vital team member on the Springhill staff.
Perform various other duties as assigned.

Compensation

The total compensation package will be approximately $44,000.  This includes $35,750 salary, health, dental, vision and life insurance, along with phone and mileage reimbursements. 

The minister will also receive two weeks of paid vacation, three personal days, two weeks of sick leave, and eleven paid holidays. 

About Springhill and Springfield, MO

Springhill Baptist Church was established in Northern Greene County/Brighton, Missouri in 1908.  The church was located there until the building was destroyed by an arson fire in 1993, at which time it moved to its present location.  The church building is located approximately 6 miles north of Springfield Missouri, (about a 10-minute drive) and is also surrounded by multiple smaller communities including Fair Grove, Pleasant Hope, and Willard.  

Springfield is the third largest city in the State of Missouri and the county seat of Greene County. The 2010 census data lists the population as 159,498 and the Springfield metropolitan area population as 436,712, which includes Greene County and 4 surrounding counties.  Springfield’s economy is primarily based on healthcare, manufacturing, retail, education, and tourism.  Its size allows for both the cultural perks of a larger city and friendliness and comfort of small-town living. 

Springhill is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention and a member of the Missouri Baptist Convention and Greene County Baptist Association. The church building sits on 15 acres and is 43,480 square feet, including a sanctuary, office wing, education classrooms, and a multi-ministry building with an industrial kitchen.  

The typical worship service is 75 minutes including five worship songs, an intercessory prayer time, a Bible-based sermon, and announcements, baptisms, and other elements when appropriate. The worship team is composed of 3-4 guitar players, bass, keys, drums, vocals (other creative arrangements are used at times). They lead using modern worship music from artists such as Passion, Kari Jobe, All Sons and Daughters, Elevation Worship, etc. as well as contemporary versions of classic hymns including “The Old Rugged Cross,” “It is Well With My Soul,” and others. The average Sunday morning attendance is 220 during the 10:30 worship service and 120 in morning Bible study classes. 

The church currently meets corporately on Sunday mornings for Bible Study classes at 9 AM and worship at 10:30. LifeGroups meet in homes on Sunday nights for adults with the primary purpose of building spiritual relationships within the church body. We also have Wednesday night Bible studies for youth at 6 PM and adults at 6:30. Springhill is also passionate about missions on the local, national, and global scale. In 2022, we took trips to Noel, Missouri, Peru, Croatia, India, and the Middle East. 

Most importantly, Springhill strives to be a healthy church. While both numerical and financial growth are great, our greatest blessing from God is unity. We are imperfect people, but we strive to live out what it means to be a church family. Springhill members seek to live life together, to pray for one another, to spend time together outside of formal church gatherings, and to provide for one another’s needs. We also choose to encourage and help other local churches rather than view them as competition. We believe that the kingdom is bigger than Springhill and that Jesus should be the recipient of glory, not us.

In a similar vein, the pastors, staff, deacons, and other servants at Springhill work together to accomplish our mission. We don’t struggle for power or leave others to do “their” job. Leaders serve one another and work as a team for the benefit of the body and the glory of God. We believe in the centrality of the Gospel in all that we do, which gives us purpose and binds us together under the banner of Christ.
