The Family Discipleship Pastor provides oversight, leadership, and service to the children’s and student ministries as part of Stanford Baptist’s mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Family Discipleship pastor oversees and leads the ministry to preschool, children, middle and high school students to align with the mission and discipleship strategy of Stanford Baptist Church. He will work with paid staff, volunteer leaders, and parents to develop a family-oriented discipleship culture that unites the efforts of both the home and church in fulfilling Christ’s mission to make disciples of the next generations
Overall Ministry to the Church
Support the lead pastor and staff in the accomplishment of the church’s mission for the glory of God.
Provide caring pastoral ministry and biblical counsel to children, students, parents, leaders, and the church family.
Partner with pastors and ministerial staff in preaching and teaching the Word of God to lead adults in the lives of children, middle and high school students to embrace the kingship of Jesus and to be transformed into His image.
Partner with pastors and ministerial staff to lead parents, leaders, and members of the congregation to build personal and meaningful connections with children and teenagers.
Partner with pastors and ministerial staff to lead parents of children and students to be Christ-like and biblical as the primary spiritual leaders in their children’s lives.
Initial focus and primary responsibility will be in ministry to middle school and high school students
Coordinate planning to lead the students to experience authentic worship personally, with their families, with the full church body, and with the student group.
Coordinate planning to lead the students to have community and bonding with their families, the full body of Christ, and their student group.
Actively share the gospel and coordinate a strategy for reaching the students with the gospel, leading them to faith, baptizing them into the body, growing them into maturity in Christ, and sending them to live in obedience to the commands and mission of Christ.
Lead the students to be locally, nationally, and internationally engaged in mission efforts.
Oversee the weekly small groups and discipleship groups for children and teenagers, including the selection of teaching materials and the development of the program including Sunday School.
Partner with the senior Pastor in discipleship strategy.
Equip and connect the younger generations to function as full church members, to fill church leadership roles, and to participate in the ministries of the full church.
Enlist, disciple, equip, and motivate leaders to serve in the ministry of the students.
Engage in leading times of training for parents, volunteers, and staff.
Plan, coordinate, communicate, and/or oversee events and activities to assist in fulfilling the disciple-making mission and to help build community among the next generation ministry (i.e., special events, retreats/camp, DNOW).
Assemble and lead a core planning team in annual, prayer-filled, strategic planning for next generation ministry.
Coordinate weekly ministries and special events that accomplish the mission of the church and next generation ministry.
Create and wisely administer the annual next generation ministry budget.
Establish protocols that protect the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of students.
Improve skills and abilities through formal and informal education by attending training and conferences.
Active member of the Sunday School Council
Appoint Youth and Children’s Committee persons

Essential Characteristics and Theological Convictions
- Confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, living a mature Christian life.
- Meet the biblical characteristics and qualifications for an elder/pastor/overseer given in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, being above accusation in his character, conduct, and the commitments to his family.
Calling to serve in vocational ministry.
- He must affirm the inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture and be able to teach sound doctrine, affirming and teaching in accordance with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
- Ordained to pastoral ministry or willing to walk through ordination candidacy process.
- Baptist Seminary Degree Preferred
- Experience Working With Students
- Pass A Background Check
- A coachable and teachable spirit and attitude.
- Ability to lead staff and volunteer teams, collaborate with peer team leads, work through conflict resolution as required, and communicate with supervisors.
- Work together as a team with pastoral and ministerial staff, volunteers, and congregation.
Pay Subject to Experience
$40-45,000 per year plus Annuity & Expenses
