Job Overview
Steadfast Church exists to proclaim the good news of Jesus, for the joy of all people, to the ends of the earth. Steadfast was planted in 2007 and is affiliated with Acts 29 and SBC.

The Director/Pastor of Steadfast Students will be a vision-driven leader responsible for overseeing effective disciple-making ministry to students in grades 6-12 and their families so that each student is growing in their love for Jesus, knowledge of His Word, and dependence on His Spirit. Currently, Steadfast Students sees ~30 middle & high school students weekly. Our volunteer Student Ministry team has provided outstanding leadership for several years. However, the projected growth of the ministry necessitates a staff leader who can build a more robust and intentional ministry to students over the next few years. The Director of Steadfast Students will work with existing leaders while recruiting and developing teams in order to shepherd and care well for middle and high school students.

  • Plan regular events/activities for students to socialize/engage outside regular programming
  • Equip students for ministry and invest with them in missions
  • Develop & execute an annual calendar of environments consisting of gatherings, groups, events and potentially retreats or camps

  • Serve as the primary leader of leaders & developer of teams for Steadfast Students
  • Recruit, train, equip, empower, and evaluate student ministry servant-leaders
  • Shepherd the servant-leaders and cast vision for the future of the ministry
  • Manage scheduling of servant leaders for gatherings, groups & events
  • Promote the safety of all students and ensure servant-leaders adhere to ministry policies

  • Develop a healthy relationship with parents of students and provide resources on a consistent basis
  • Regularly communicate and support parents’ at-home discipleship of students
  • Work with Steadfast Kids Director and Equipping Pastor to provide occasional opportunities for parent training
  • Develop and maintain a healthy relationship with the local schools

Administration – of all systems associated with student ministry (i.e. budgets, participants, leadership, policies and tracking).

Teaching/Preaching – Provides pulpit supply several times per year, and available to help teach classes, etc. as discipleship/equipping initiatives are determined and launched.

Social Media – Take responsibility for social media content specific to Steadfast Students

Miscellaneous – Other responsibilities or tasks assigned by Lead Pastor and elders as needed and as fits the gifts of the leader.

High competence and sound character – Steadfast Church strives for a high bar of excellence. This is not a job for someone who is still figuring out who they are and what they do well. Nor will it be a good fit for someone who is immature in his understanding of the gospel or young in spiritual formation.
An eye for details combined with a big-picture vision – The ideal Student Director sees the whole, but is able to break it into manageable parts for execution. He is equally energized by large-scale projects (“Let’s develop a five-year action plan for discipleship”) and by small-scale needs (“Someone must fix the spelling errors on that worship slide”). He is both an idealist and a pragmatist; one who is always striving for “best” but who can be content with “better.”

Highly intuitive – If you’re the kind of person who “reads” problems, quickly discerns what’s needed, and involves others in implementing a solution you will be an excellent fit on this team.
Personable – Ministry is highly relational, and as such, the director/pastor of Student Ministries needs to be highly Emotionally Intelligent, self-aware, controlled, empathetic, social, and motivated in order to relate to all kinds of people and move them toward a common goal.

Creativity/Innovating – This person will be adept in historical methods and strategies for facilitating spiritual growth in individuals and groups, but also be adept at looking for and a willingness to create and implement other discipleship initiatives when needed.

Generalist with Special Skills – Our staff, and particularly our pastors/directors must be able to function as generalists on the team who can specialize when necessary. Think basketball team vs. football team. This person will have a breadth of skills beyond what is listed on this application and be able to jump in and do what is necessary when necessary.

Shepherding the Flock – This person must be a spiritual leader and disciple-maker first and foremost. We are looking for someone with a passion to see people grow in their walk with Jesus.

  • Demonstrates a mature walk with Christ.
  • Models a “life-long-learner”.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of basic Christian theology
  • Passion to see students grow in their love for Christ, and knowledge of His Word
  • Effective communication & leadership skills
  • Gifted in teaching and preaching and large group speaking skills.
  • Self-starter and disciplined to work when unsupervised
  • Ability to effectively delegate and manage time
  • Highly energetic, cheerful and a positive attitude
  • Experience with leading, motivating, and managing people.
  • Experience/abilities in strategic planning.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to think & act on the fly
  • Skills and experience in the recruiting, training and developing of ministry leaders.
  • Experience in scheduling and budgeting.
  • High-Capacity Operator – Can spin several plates simultaneously

  • Fulfill the duties required of Steadfast Church members as outlined in the church constitution
  • Fulfill the character qualifications of an elder as taught in the Scriptures (1 Tim. 3 & Titus 1)
