Ministry Description

We seek a senior pastor to lead our congregation upon the retirement of our pastor of 34 years. Swift Creek Baptist Church aspires to be a Biblically-grounded, unified, multi-generational church family committed to exalting Jesus as Lord and Savior in our homes, our community and around the world.  Our church is located at the edge of Colonial Heights, in Chesterfield County, about 30 minutes south of Richmond, Virginia, within the Interstate 95 corridor. Our church ministers within the Tri-Cities region of Colonial Heights-Petersburg-Hopewell and the Chester communities.  We are near Fort Lee and Virginia State University.

Qualifications and Desired Characteristics:

• Displays love for Christ and maintains devotion to the Lordship of Christ through personal spiritual disciplines – Prayer, Bible study, maintaining a clear conscience, transmitting the Gospel
• Exhibits love for people as a servant, a leader and a visionary – actively laboring on their behalf, ministering to their affliction and building up their faith
• Ably, clearly and insightfully communicates from the Word of God.
• Demonstrates skill in outreach evangelism and disciple-making
• Exemplifies the qualities listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7
• Equipped via adequate pulpit preaching experience
• Displays leadership skills and works well with staff, fosters teamwork and cooperation
• Maintains healthy relationships
• Exhibits humility, kindness, compassion, truthfulness, transparency
• Familiar with and experienced in overseeing multiple ministries of the church
• Completed Seminary Master’s degree with minimum of five years of Pastoral experience

Primary Responsibilities

Teaching & Preaching

• Uses the Bible foundationally for all preaching and teaching
• Guard sound doctrine
• Proclaims and teach the Word of God, lead others in proclaiming the Gospel within the church and outward to the community (Acts 6:4).
• Engages in consistent, regular Bible study an adequate number of hours weekly in preparation for Bible teaching, preaching, etc.
• Emphasizes textual and expository preaching

Shepherding/Nurturing

• Provides leadership and support for ministry leaders
• Be proficient at sharing the clear gospel message and equipping the body to reach the community for Christ
• Emphasizes prayer and Bible study
• Demonstrates love and sincere care for people through service, fellowship, exhortation, leadership and prayer
• Ministers to the congregation via hospital visitations and in-home visitations
• Provides counsel to those in need

Leadership/Administration

• Be committed and faithful to the Great Commission and be able to communicate that to others
• Lead by example
• Possesses administrative skills and be able to delegate responsibility
• Lead, mentor and develop church staff to ensure unity and growth
