Position Summary
The Kids Minister leads The Mount Church’s Kids Ministry, carrying out the church’s mission of “Following Jesus Together” among children from birth through sixth grade and their families. Working alongside staff and volunteers, this leader creates safe, Gospel-centered environments where kids encounter biblical truth, grow as disciples, and experience the love of Jesus. The role calls for a passion for partnering with parents, developing volunteer leaders, and building an organized, welcoming ministry that helps families take meaningful next steps in following Jesus together.

Primary Outcomes
The Kids Minister will:
1. Ensure Kids are growing as disciples of Jesus.
2. Provide safe, welcoming, and excellent ministry environments
3. Establish strong partnerships with parents and families
4. Develop a healthy, equipped, and multiplying ministry team
5. Create organized and sustainable ministry systems

General Responsibilities
1) Kids Growing as Disciples
• Provide vision, strategy, and day-to-day leadership for Kids Ministry, ensuring alignment with The Mount’s mission, doctrine, and values.
• Lead and oversee weekly ministry environments for children from birth through sixth grade, including nursery, preschool, and elementary ministry.
• Distribute Gospel-centered, age-appropriate curriculum and teaching plans as approved by the Teaching Pastor.
• Ensure classrooms and large-group environments are engaging, relational, developmentally appropriate, and clearly focused on biblical truth.
• Create pathways that help kids understand and respond to the Gospel, grow in spiritual habits, and celebrate milestones such as salvation and baptism.
• Be present, visible, and engaged on Sundays, building meaningful relationships with children, parents, volunteers, and new families.
• Regularly evaluate ministry environments, curriculum, and discipleship strategies for effectiveness and improvement.
2) Safe, Welcoming & Excellent Ministry Environments
• Champion a ministry culture in which the physical, emotional, and spiritual safety of every child is a clear priority.
• Implement and consistently enforce all MinistrySafe requirements, child-protection policies, check-in and check-out procedures, and emergency protocols.
• Maintain accurate records for volunteer screening, background checks, training, incidents, attendance, and child information.
• Train staff and volunteers in appropriate boundaries, classroom management, emergency response, and best practices for safely engaging children.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to safety concerns, incidents, and policy violations in coordination with church leadership.
• Ensure ministry spaces are clean, prepared, welcoming, secure, and supplied for each gathering.
3) Strong Partnership with Parents & Families
• Partner with parents as the primary disciplers of their children by providing practical, accessible resources and encouragement.
• Develop a regular rhythm of parenting workshops and training opportunities that equip parents with biblical, practical tools for discipling their kids.
• Connect with new families through intentional follow-up, personal invitations, and clear next steps.
• Communicate consistently with parents about ministry updates, curriculum, events, policies, and opportunities for involvement.
• Be a ministerial presence for families navigating spiritual questions, parenting challenges, crises, and significant spiritual milestones.
• Build trust with families through professionalism, discretion, responsiveness, and a warm, Christlike spirit.
• Help ensure children with disabilities, allergies, medical needs, or other accommodations are served thoughtfully and safely in partnership with their families.
4) A Healthy, Equipped & Multiplying Ministry Team
• Recruit, screen, onboard, train, coach, schedule, and care for Kids Ministry volunteers and team leaders.
• Build a leadership pipeline that develops volunteers to lead teams, disciple children, and multiply future leaders.
• Maintain consistent rhythms for volunteer communication, training, appreciation, connection, and follow-up.
• Ensure each classroom and ministry environment is appropriately staffed with trusted and equipped leaders.
• Provide clear expectations, resources, feedback, and accountability so volunteers can serve confidently and effectively.
• Supervise and lead the Kids Ministry Associate and other assigned staff or interns.
5) Organized & Sustainable Ministry Systems
• Plan, prepare, and execute Kids Ministry events such as Vacation Bible School and other family experiences. Collaborate with the staff for seasonal events and church-wide ministry opportunities.
• Steward the Kids Ministry budget, calendar, curriculum, registrations, supplies, technology, and spaces responsibly.
• Oversee Planning Center systems related to volunteer scheduling, registrations, check-in, attendance, and family information.
• Maintain organized documentation and workflows so ministry information is accessible, accurate, and consistent.
• Develop annual ministry goals, plans, budgets, and measurable indicators of ministry health.
• Participate in staff meetings, key ministry planning rhythms, church-wide events, and leadership development.
• Work collaboratively with elders, staff, and ministry leaders to align calendars, facilities, messaging, promotion, and family ministry efforts.
• Collaborate with Summit Preschool leadership to utilize shared spaces and align calendars.
• Model a culture of prayer, humility, ownership, healthy communication, continuous improvement, and joyful service.

Qualifications
• A growing, mature follower of Jesus Christ with behavior and character consistent with biblical teaching.
• Alignment with The Mount’s doctrine, mission, values, and leadership.
• Willing to become a member of The Mount Church.
• A shepherding heart with the ability to lead with conviction, humility, warmth, patience, and courage.
• A genuine love for Kids and families and a desire to see the next generation follow Jesus.
• Highly relational and emotionally mature—able to connect with kids, parents, and volunteers from varied backgrounds and handle sensitive situations with discretion and wisdom.
• A collaborative, team-first leader who communicates openly, welcomes input, shares ownership, and works across ministry areas to advance the mission of the whole church.
• Committed to student safety, appropriate ministry boundaries, and consistent accountability.
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple moving pieces without losing the relational and ministry focus of the role.
• Able to lead both strategically and practically, moving comfortably between vision, people development, teaching, administration, and hands-on ministry needs.

Experience & Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Biblical Studies, Children’s Ministry, Christian Education, or a related field preferred; relevant ministry experience will be considered in place of a degree.
• 3–5 years of proven leadership experience in children’s or family ministry within a local church.
• Demonstrated ability to build teams, develop volunteer leaders, and create healthy volunteer systems.
• Understanding of child development, age-appropriate teaching, classroom management, and family discipleship.
• Strong communicator – both when teaching children and when communicating with parents, volunteers, staff, and church leadership.
• Experience planning and executing weekly ministry environments, Vacation Bible School, and family events.
• Demonstrated ability to implement child-safety policies and lead teams with consistency and accountability.
• Proficient with common church and office software, including Planning Center, check-in systems, ProPresenter, and Microsoft products, with the ability to learn new tools quickly.

Work Rhythm / Expectations
• Standard office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM, with the expectation of also being present on Sundays and Wednesday evenings.
• Additional evening, weekend, and seasonal responsibilities are expected for volunteer training, camps, retreats, ministry events, and church-wide gatherings.
• Participate fully in the life of the church, contributing to the unity, health, and shepherding of The Mount Church.
• Maintain a healthy, sustainable pace and model wise boundaries while remaining responsive to genuine ministry needs.

Compensation / Notes
• Compensation and benefits will be determined based on experience and alignment with The Mount’s compensation structure: $60,000–$70,000 salary range.
• Simple IRA with an optional 3% match.
• Housing Allowance / Ministerial Status: Persons employed in this position may be commissioned as ministers by the Elders of The Mount Church and may qualify for ministerial tax-status benefits.
• PTO and MTO (Ministry Time Off).
