Reports To: Senior Pastor, Finance Committee and Personnel Committee

We are a gospel-centered Southern Baptist church in Sanford, NC, committed to biblical stewardship and transparency in all financial matters. We seek a detail-oriented, trustworthy individual to serve as Treasurer, ensuring accurate financial management and compliance with church and regulatory standards.

Position Summary

The Treasurer oversees all financial operations of the church, including deposits, bill payments, payroll, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance with state and federal requirements. This role works closely with the Finance Committee and serves as a key steward of the church’s resources.

Key Responsibilities

Weekly

Pick up deposit receipts from the bank (Mondays)
Post tithes and offering information to Secretary
Download online giving
Post tithes and offerings; download and post online giving
Enter and pay bills; post credit card receipts
Serve as backup to the Secretary

Semi-Monthly

Process payroll on the 15th and last day of each month

Monthly

Process missions payments and account transfers
Download and reconcile bank statements (checking & money market)
Calculate and post interest allocations to subaccounts
Reconcile credit card statements; obtain missing receipts
Process payroll withholding taxes; record pastor retirement contributions
Run financial reports for Finance Committee; email reports and reconciliations two days prior to meeting
Attend Finance Committee meetings and record minutes

Quarterly

File Form 941 and remit NC-5 state tax payments
Prepare Treasurer’s report for business meetings
Redeem credit card rewards and deposit into operating account

Semi-Annual

Process sales tax refunds (January & July)

Annual

Complete BSC Annual Report (September)
Prepare and distribute budget packets; draft proposed budget
Prepare year-end tax documents (W-2, W-3, NC-5, 1099, 1096) by January 31
Prepare contribution statements for mailing by January 31
Update employee withholding tables and amounts (January & September)
Complete Workers’ Comp audit (September)

As Needed

Transfer funds per Finance Committee approval
Restock counting room supplies; order checks and deposit books
Obtain W-9, W-4, NC-4, and insurance certificates for vendors/employees
Manage credit card issuance, limits, and agreements
Qualifications

Faith & Integrity: Committed Christian aligned with SBC beliefs; demonstrates confidentiality and stewardship.

Experience: Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience required; QuickBooks proficiency preferred.

Skills:

– Strong organizational and time-management skills.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial software.
– Knowledge of payroll, tax filings, and reconciliations.
Compensation & Schedule

Hours: Part-time, flexible schedule with some fixed deadlines (e.g., payroll, monthly reports).
