Position Title: Student Ministry Director/Pastor “Pending Ordination”
Reports To: Associate Pastor/Senior Pastor
Church Mission Statement: To know Christ and make him known.
Position Summary:
The Youth Director will provide spiritual leadership and direction for the youth (typically ages 12-18), helping them grow in their relationship with Christ. This role includes teaching biblical truth, fostering a safe and welcoming environment, and creating opportunities for discipleship, outreach, and service in line with the beliefs of the Southern Baptist Convention as outlined in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
Key Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship:
Teach and preach the Bible faithfully in line with SBC theology.
Develop and lead weekly youth gatherings, with a particular focus on Sunday mornings, Wednesday night Bible studies, and small groups.
Encourage personal spiritual growth through prayer, worship, & discipleship.
Event Planning & Outreach:
Plan, organize, and lead youth-related events such as camps, retreats, mission trips, team building activities, and service projects. (Strive to have these types of events at least once a month).
Develop outreach strategies to engage non-Christian youth and integrate them into the church community.
Mentorship & Relationship Building:
Partner with Parents to Build strong relationships with the youth, providing guidance and support during critical stages of their spiritual and personal development.
Be available for counseling and pastoral care, addressing spiritual, emotional, and social challenges.
Volunteer Recruitment & Development:
Recruit, train, and mentor youth ministry volunteers, ensuring all leaders align with the church’s values and child safety protocols.
Develop a leadership pipeline within the youth group, equipping students to serve as leaders in their peer group and beyond.
Collaboration & Church Involvement:
Work closely with other church staff to integrate the youth ministry with the overall mission and vision of the church.
Participate in church-wide services, meetings, and events to foster a unified church body.
Parent Communication & Involvement:
Communicate regularly with parents to inform them of events, the spiritual development of their children, and how they can be involved.
Provide resources and encouragement for parents to disciple their children within the comfort of their own homes.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Manage the youth ministry budget and resources effectively.
Ensure safety procedures and child protection policies are in place & followed.
Maintain communication platforms such as social media, newsletters, or other digital tools for youth engagement.
Qualifications:
A personal & growing relationship with Christ, evidenced by a spirit led life of integrity & obedience to biblical teachings that exemplifies the standards for church leaders found in passages such as 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:5-9.
The candidate must maintain a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with Him expressed by ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, fellowship/community, and financial generosity.
They must strongly embrace and support Southern Baptist Convention theology and doctrinal beliefs as outlined in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
Candidates must either possess or be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry, Youth Ministry, or a related field (a seminary degree from a Baptist school or equivalent is preferred).
Previous experience in youth ministry or a related field is preferable.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for teaching and mentoring youth.
Ability to organize events, manage volunteers, and foster community within the youth group.
Work Environment: This position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight events such as camps, retreats, and or mission trips. The Youth Pastor is expected to maintain a visible presence in the church and community.
Salary: Commensurate according to experience and qualifications, including benefits as outlined by the church’s policy.
