Vice President for Communications Full Time
SBC Executive Committee
ActiveThe vice president for communications reports to the president and chief executive officer of the SBC Executive Committee and serves on the Executive Leadership Team. He/she directs communications strategies of the Executive Committee in advancing the mission of the SBC and the Executive Committee.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the communications team of the Executive Committee, including creating overall strategies and methods for continuously improving effectiveness in this area
- Provide administrative and editorial oversight of Baptist Press.
- Oversee SBC, Executive Committee, and Baptist Press websites and social media.
- Create media content like generating Baptist Press story ideas, writing Baptist Press stories, hosting podcasts, consulting on marketing plans, etc.
- Monitor SBC-related news, interact with secular and state convention media members, and coordinate media requests and responses for SBC President and EC President.
- Coordinate Cooperative Program promotion with SBC entities, state conventions, and ethnic fellowships. This may include developing resources, leading meetings, executing major events, creating marketing campaigns, facilitating communications among partners, etc.
- Enhance partnerships with SBC entities, state conventions, associations, and ethnic fellowships
- Represent the Executive Committee at state conventions, associations, and ethnic fellowship meetings.
- Lead Baptist Press staff to coordinate overall coverage of the SBC annual meeting, including the press room and press conferences.
- Develop communications and Baptist Press policy guidelines for consideration by the Executive Committee.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the president and chief executive officer.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; Masters degree preferred.
- Active membership in a Southern Baptist church.
- Formal theological training or experience not required but preferred.
- 10+ years experience and demonstrated competence in corporate communications.
- Deep understanding of the Southern Baptist Convention, its entities and ministries.
- Proficient with communications technology tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to engage with Southern Baptists
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
